Call Description
The Sarah Spurgeon Gallery at Central Washington University will host Crossroads and Connections III, a juried exhibition featuring artwork by Department of Art + Design alumni who graduated between 1996 and 2010. Alumni who received undergraduate and graduate degrees during that timeframe are eligible to enter.
Crossroads and Connections III is open to submissions in all media; artwork needs to have been completed during the past five years (since 2020) but does not need to follow a particular theme. A panel of three alumni jurors, including Lana Robinson, Lisa Soranaka, and Jenny Walton, will select the artwork that is to be included in the exhibition.
The purpose of this exhibit is to showcase and celebrate the accomplishments of CWU Art + Design alumni, and to invite alumni from all graduation classes to reconnect with each other, as well as the faculty and staff of the Department of Art + Design. The special events that will take place concurrently with the exhibit include an opening reception and alumni panel talk, and a closing event, the annual Art + Design Alumni Spring Fest.
Information about the Jurors:
Lana Robinson (BFA in Graphic Design, Class of 2018) is a Graphic Designer for John Paul Mitchell Systems in Los Angeles, supporting the company’s professional hair color brands. She has worked on a variety of projects from internal educational materials to identity systems, merchandising installations, and celebrity campaigns.
Lisa Soranaka (BFA in Studio Art, ceramics, Class of 2009) is a BIPOC ceramicist and arts educator who teaches at several schools in Washington state including Gonzaga University and Eastern Washington University. Drawing on her Japanese heritage, Soranaka explores the cultural influences that shape her life and artistic practice.
Jenny Walton (BFA in Studio Art, painting, Class of 2001) works primarily in watercolor and metalpoint drawing at her studio in the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center near Washington, D.C. Walton has exhibited nationally in New York, Miami, Boston, and Seattle, as well as internationally in Italy.
