Call Description

Curious Figure 3 is the third installment of a juried figurative arts exhibition presented by The Siren Scene. This exhibition highlights figurative artists whose craft and storytelling mirror the currents of our time, offering vivid reflections of the human experience in all its complexity. The exhibition will be on view at the Co+Creative Center in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

THEME – Figure & Field: Interplay of Form, Space, and Story
Artists are encouraged to submit work that explores the expressive potential of the human figure in dialogue with its surroundings (whether literal, symbolic, narrative, or illustrative) reflecting the dynamic interplay of form, space, and story. This exhibition specifically welcomes two-dimensional representational approaches in painting, drawing, and printmaking, with a focus on storytelling, allegory, clarity of design, and strong craftsmanship.

• Excellence in craftsmanship
• Strong visual storytelling and/or allegory
• Creative interpretation of the figure in a spatial setting or context
• Work that reflects contemporary ideas, community, identity, or lived experience

JUROR & CURATOR
Curated by Kat Knutsen and Joe Vaux. Kat Knutsen is an artist, educator, curator, and founder of The Siren Scene. She was an animator for the Oscar nominated film Loving Vincent. Joe Vaux is an artist splitting his time between directing episodes of Family Guy and churning out gallery work that channels daily stress with a pinch of humor into lush, detailed tableaux paintings

PROMOTION
Accepted artworks will be featured through The Siren Scene’s publications, social media, newsletters, and Co+Creative Center platforms.

• Jurors' Choice Award: $2100 + 2 free copies of the exhibition catalogue
• Excellence in Craft Award: $200 + 1 free copies of the exhibition catalogue
• Excellence in Concept Award:  $200 + 1 free copies of the exhibition catalogue

Application Requirements

 Accepted media include two-dimensional painting, drawing, and printmaking

ENTRY GUIDELINES
• Artists may submit up to 3 works for consideration.
• All entries must be submitted through CaFE.
• Images must be clear, well-lit, and cropped appropriately.
• Application image files must be named in this format: ArtistName_TitleOfWork.jpg
• Artwork may not exceed 20 inches wide x 32 inches tall.
• Works must reflect representational approaches to figurative art.
• Catalogue Images: Files uploaded for the exhibition catalogue must be printer-friendly and sized
appropriately for high resolution 8.5 × 11 inch printing.

ENTRY FEE
$20 nonrefundable submission fee.
 

Eligibility Criteria

Open to adult artists (18+) residing in the United States. Artwork must be original, created within the last 3 years, and available for the duration of the exhibition.
