Call Description

What's Included: Private studio with 24-hour access, private two-bedroom living space, shared kitchen and common areas, two weekly catered family meals, stocked kitchen, $595 stipend, and curated studio visits with Hudson Valley arts professionals.

Your Family, Your Way: Attend with your children on-site, bring additional family to help with childcare, or come solo—whatever works best for you. We offer individualized childcare planning and connect you with vetted local providers, camps, and programming. The property includes play spaces, a kids' art studio, and outdoor areas designed with families in mind.

Community: Two carefully matched artist/family units share each session, creating meaningful connection with peers who understand the joys and challenges of making art while raising children.

Studios: Climate-controlled spaces with beautiful views, lofted areas, WiFi, and sinks. Work in any medium except highly toxic materials. No ceramics facilities, kiln, or woodshop available.

Accessibility: Our facilities are not currently ADA compliant, though we're actively working toward improvements. Please contact us with specific accessibility questions.

Selection and Scheduling: A diverse international jury evaluates applications in two rounds. Finalists (notified in April) submit additional materials about residency plans, family needs, and scheduling availability. Final selections prioritize artistic excellence, the strength of the proposed project, and scheduling alignment. Please note: no specifics on our Residency Calendar are included in this application. Calendar availability is collected from the Finalist round of applicants only. We schedule accepted applicants into a two-year cohort. Our programming runs 3 week sessions year-round.

Application Requirements

Your application will largely be evaluated by your work samples. Artist statements and CVs provide supplementary and contextual information to the jury.

Please submit 8-10 individual works for review. For video, installation, or performance work, please submit no more than 3 works total for review, amounting to 5 minutes maximum of play time. Please ensure that your files are properly uploaded and links do not require passwords. (Works that cannot be accessed by the jury will not be considered.)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to visual artists who are actively parenting (natural, foster, adoptive, or stepparents with care and custody of a child under 18).
  • This program is designed for visual artists only.
  • Open to visual artists at all career stages.
  • International applicants are welcome and encouraged to apply, though we cannot provide visa sponsorship or assistance.
  • If both co-parents in your household are visual artists with distinct studio practices, you may each apply separately. If you work together as an artistic partnership, please submit one joint application.

Non-Discrimination Statement Interlude Artist Residency does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, family structure, or any other legally protected status. We strongly encourage applications from artists of all backgrounds, particularly those underrepresented in the arts.
