Call Description

The Art Base invites Colorado based artists to apply to our annual Open Call for exhibitions in our two Basalt galleries, and affiliate exhibition spaces. We welcome proposals for solo, two/three-person and group exhibitions across all media, with five week exhibition periods. Applicants may also opt into consideration for group exhibitions curated by our panel of jurors. 

Each proposal is reviewed on its own merits, with attention to artistic rigor, presentation, and relevance to the community the gallery serves. We support a diversity of artistic practices, without prioritizing any single approach. All proposals are expected to be articulated with clarity and professional care. 

Public programming is a core part of our mission as a community art center, and we strongly encourage proposals to incorporate outreach, dialogue , and/or educational engagement. This reflects our commitment to fostering ambitious, thoughtful work while building meaningful connections between artists and the communities we serve.

Application Requirements

• 10-16 hi-resolution images of artwork.
• Brief show proposal. 500 word max.
• An artist or curatorial statement. 500-800 words.
• Bio of the artist(s), or curator for group exhibitions.

Eligibility Criteria

• you must live within 85 miles of the Art Base (map of this radius available on our website under Artist Opportunities)
• If you have previously had a solo exhibition at the Art Base, there must be a minimum 3 years between your exhibition and another proposal for a solo. This does not affect eligibility for group or 3 person exhibitions.
