Exhibition Prospectus

*Note: The $30 entry fee covers 3 entries. The minimum image submission requirement is 3 images. You do not have to submit 3 different works, but artists have the option to do so for the $30 fee: one image per submission. If you do not have three works to submit, use the additional image requirement slots for detail images, or just submit the same image 3 times. Each additional submission over 3 submissions is an additional $5, and artists can submit up to 10 works to be juried for the show.

On Point! is an exhibition of artworks that showcase contemporary embroidery from across the country. Today’s embroidery artists are pushing the boundaries of traditional needlework techniques by combining them with new and creative methods proving that embroidery should no longer be considered a purely functional and decorative craft. Works in this exhibit may utilize other materials in the work, but the clear focal point and star of the work should be the embroidery component(s).

This exhibition will take place in our smaller exhibition space, The Vault, to create a more intimate and close up experience for our patrons. The Vault is a historical bank vault within The Center, and gives artists an opportunity to exhibit their work in a unique space in the heart of Norfolk's Arts District (The NEON District). This will be a competitive call as this intimate space will only be able to accommodate about 25 works.

Hang/display ready art (including the frame if applicable) can not be longer/larger than 36 inches in its longest dimension. Depending on artist involvement with installation, these stipulations may be waived by contacting the Gallery Director.

If you have a question about if your work qualifies, please email abradley@d-artcenter.org. No phone calls please.

If your work is selected for the show, please be sure to read the full Limitations and Artwork Specifications section before shipping or hand delivering work.

This is an in person exhibition but this exhibition will also be featured digitally on d’Art Center’s archive site.

This is a juried exhibition in an intimate space, and it will be curated by d’Art Center Gallery Director, Amanda Bradley. This best in show award will be selected by a panel of d’Art Center’s professional artists and staff members.

Image Submission Tips: If you are submitting a 3D work, create a tile image for the submission so that other sides can be seen, or use the other image slots for detail images and label them as such. You do not have to submit 3 different works, but artists have the option to do so for the $30 fee: one image per submission. If you do not have three works to submit, use the additional image requirement slots for detail images, or just submit the same image 3 times.
