Call Description
“Beneath The Surface”
Juror: Lisa Bryson
Woodward Contemporary presents “Beneath the Surface”, an exhibition examining what is concealed within and beyond visual form. We seek works that offer initial clarity yet unfold deeper meaning through texture, layering, and emotional complexity. This call invites artists who engage in a process of excavation-whether physical, psychological, or conceptual- revealing tension beneath the aesthetic calm. Selected pieces should evoke discovery and depth, inviting reflection on what is hidden, repressed, or emerging. Beneath the Surface asks artists to consider not only what is seen, but what is sensed.
Important Dates:
Accepted (and non-accepted) artists will be notified as of April 17, 2026
Accepted art to be delivered by April 24 by 3 pm
Opening Reception for the Artists: May 9, 2026 from 6 to 9PM
Exhibition will end on June 6, 2026
Application Requirements
- Minimum Art Size: no side less than 10 inches
- Maximum Art Size: 52 inches in either direction
- Maximum Weight: 40 pounds
- Sculpture Max Height: 30’’
- Sculpture Max Weight: 100 pounds
- Artwork must be for sale
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to artists 18 years and older
- Entries must be original and created entirely by the artist. No digital art, workshop/class art, or reproductions will be accepted
- Only one painting per artist will be juried into the exhibition
