Call Description
Fraser invites Artists to submit proposals for an original outdoor sculpture celebrating the spirit of biking, movement, and community. The selected work will be installed at the new Fraser Bike Park, a dynamic public space welcoming riders of all ages and skill levels.
The goal of this project is to create an iconic, visually engaging sculpture that reflects the energy, balance, freedom, and a love for the outdoors; celebrating the adventure, resilience, and deep connection to nature that define the mountain biking experience.
The Fraser Bike Park is welcoming riders of all abilities, backgrounds, and experience levels and Artists are encouraged to explore themes including:
- Motion and momentum: flow, speed, and technical movement
- Human-powered adventure
- Connection to terrain and outdoor recreation
- Community connection through biking
- Playfulness, calculated risk, and resilience
The total project budget is up to $10,000, which must cover the artist’s fee, materials, fabrication, transportation, and installation.
Installation Requirements
- The concrete base pillar is 12in in diameter and is designed to accommodate bolts up to 3ft deep for securely attaching the sculpture.
- Artwork must be engineered to safely mount to this base and remain stable in outdoor conditions.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- Artist statement (max 500 words)
- 5–10 images of previous work
- Concept proposal including:
- Description (max 500 words)
- Preliminary sketches or renderings
- Proposed materials
- Estimated dimensions
- Installation requirements
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to professional artists or artist teams aged 18 and over
- Experience with outdoor and/or public art preferred
- Applicants must be able to meet project timeline and budget requirements
- Local and regional artists are strongly encouraged to apply
