Call Description

Sausalito Landscape Festival

The Sausalito Center for the Arts invites artists from California to submit work for the Sausalito Landscape Festival Juried Exhibition, part of a month-long celebration of landscape painting held each August in the historic waterfront community of Sausalito, California.

This Call for Entry offers $1,000 in special recognition of excellence awards. Selected works will be exhibited alongside paintings created by invitational artists from the Plein Air portion of the festival, offering visitors a rich and diverse exploration of landscape, seascape, and cityscape painting and showing the immediacy of plein air painting and the broader possibilities of landscape explored in the studio.

The Sausalito Center for the Arts, located in the heart of the downtown district, has attracted tens of thousands of people and was recently voted the best gallery for art in Marin County by the Independent Journal and Pacific Sun.

The exhibition will be on view from August 5 through August 27, where SCA typically welcomes 3,000 visitors monthly.

Awards

$1,000 will be awarded special recognition of landscape excellence by Sausalito Landscape Festival jurors.

Juror Information

Carolyn Meyer is the Director of the School of Painting at San Francisco’s Academy of Art University. Her experience spans 30 years of Solo and Group Exhibitions with Art Galleries across the country. As an artist herself, her work oscillates between realism and abstraction, elements that are central to each painting. Through this approach, she expresses her passion for place and process. Meyer's deep affinity for the cities she inhabits and visits, especially San Francisco and New York, is evident in her artwork. She captures the unique essence of these urban landscapes at various times, day and night, depicting their varied atmospheres with a keen eye for detail and composition.

Application Requirements

  • $35 to submit first piece of art.
Additional pieces may be submitted for $10 per piece
  • Artists can submit up to 3 pieces of original landscape artworks.

If accepted, each piece must be marked with the artist’s name, title, medium, size, and retail price. Wall hanging pieces must be wired and ready for hanging. No sawtooth hangers.
