Call Description
Call Details:
The City of Lone Tree Arts Commission is seeking proposals from Colorado artists for an outdoor, temporary, three-dimensional art installation to be displayed for no less than 90 days at a pre-selected site near the Lone Tree Arts Center.
Artwork should be suitable for outdoor public display, weather resistant, pedestrian safe, and appropriate for all ages. The installation should include an interactive component, engaging multiple senses that can bring diverse audiences together to create a sense of community through a shared experience. Daytime presence/activation is required; nighttime is encouraged.
Proposals that include elements such as interactive sound, tactile textures, and kinetic motion, will be given more weight in the selection process. Artists are encouraged to stretch the boundaries of what art means through the use of sustainable materials (salvaged, recycled, or natural materials) and the use of bold design elements and colors. This installation should be eye-catching, hopefully drawing foot traffic from a distance. The structure must withstand Colorado's variable weather (heavy snow, high winds, UV exposure) and "rough engagement." There should be no sharp edges, entrapment hazards, or small detachable parts that could pose a risk to children.
Review and Selection Process:
First Round
All submissions will be reviewed by the Lone Tree Arts Commission; assessing the creativity and overall quality of the previous work being submitted. The Arts Commission will consider each statement submission for its ability to convey how the piece will enliven the public area and grounds surrounding the Lone Tree Arts Center and its ability to draw people in and provide a welcoming presence.
Second Round
The Arts Commission will narrow the field down to a group of finalists who will be invited to pitch their concept design in person or virtually. Proposals will be reviewed and scored based on the technical feasibility of the project, its ability to meet the guidelines laid out in the call details, and whether it furthers the mission and goals of the City of Lone Tree. Each finalist will receive a $100 honorarium for pitching their proposal.
