The Gallery of Hermosa invites artists to submit work for Colors of the Coast, a  group exhibition celebrating coastal life.

Timed to coincide with two of Southern California’s highly attended cultural events - Fiesta Hermosa and Hermosa Beach Fine Arts Festival - this exhibition will be seen by thousands of visitors from across Los Angeles and beyond.

We are seeking high-quality, original artwork in all styles, genres, and mediums. From representational to abstract, traditional to experimental, impressionistic to photography, plein air to surreal.. artists are encouraged to interpret the coastal theme broadly and creatively.

Local, national, and international artists working in all genres.

Theme (Open Interpretation)
“Colors of the Coast” may explore shoreline landscapes, ocean energy, beach culture, memory, movement, light, or personal narratives connected to coastal environments. We are looking for high quality work that depicts your interpretation. Please be sure to include a description. 

Why Apply

  • Exhibit in a curated gallery space in Hermosa Beach
  • Some selected works may be included in the Gallery tent during Hermosa Fiesta (May 23-25) and possibly the Hermosa Fine Arts Festival (June 13-14).

Eligible Works:
We welcome 2D works in all mediums and smaller 3D sculptures. Can include but not limited to paintings in oil, watercolor, mixed media, pastel, acrylic, pen and ink, sumi-e, pencil drawings, works in ceramic, bronze, marble, stone or other mediums. We will consider all genres including but not limited to landscapes, figurative, portraits, abstract, surreal, still life, impressionism, expressionism, pop art, realism, conceptual art, digital art, photography and more.

Submission Details:

  • Artists: Open to all local, national, and international artists.
  • Art Criteria: Wall-mounted pieces with wire across the back. We cannot accept framed works over 16”x20” with glass. Plexiglass is acceptable. Sculptural works up to 20” in height.
  • Size: All sizes are welcome. Larger pieces with glass frames will not be displayed. 3D works under 20-inches tall that can stand on a pedestal will be considered.
  • Price: All price points will be considered. Artwork must be available for sale. 
  • Quality: High-quality, original art only. All mediums and genres that connect to the theme will be considered.
  • Photography and Printmaking: Must be unique or part of a limited edition series. Please specify the series and edition and note as such on the artwork.
  • Artist Statement: Please include an artist statement with your submission. This should provide insight into the inspiration behind your work and connection to the theme.
  • Social Media and Website: Include your Instagram handle and website URL.

Selection Process:
This exhibit will be juried by a panel of art professionals.
Submissions will be evaluated on:

  • Artistic quality and craftsmanship.
  • Relevance to the theme "Colors of the Coast".
  • Innovation and ability to inspire or provoke thought.

Artists will have the opportunity to showcase their work at the Gallery of Hermosa space in the heart of Hermosa Beach, near Los Angeles, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Long Beach, Torrance, San Diego, Oceanside, Santa Barbara. Artists from California, national and international are welcome to apply. Selected works may be listed online on our website as well Artsy.net.

Application Requirements

Artists may submit artwork for the non-refundable entry fee of $35 up to 3 total submissions. Each image will be considered a submission. Detail shots count toward the image total.

All accepted artwork will be offered for sale during this exhibition at our gallery and online. Artwork must be available for sale. Please include the selling price in your CaFE account portfolio/artwork image details. 

Artists please include an Artist’s Statement and brief description for each artwork. 

Eligibility Criteria

Open to all local, national and international artists. Artist is responsible for delivering or shipping artwork to and from the gallery. Dates will be provided.
