Call Description

The 13th Annual Los Angeles Billboard Exhibition: No Walls, No Gates

The Billboard Creative is now accepting submissions for its 13th Annual Los Angeles Billboard Exhibition, an annual public art show that transforms billboards across Los Angeles into a citywide open-air gallery.

For over a decade, TBC has offered artists an alternative to the traditional gallery system by placing large-scale artworks in public space — on the same billboards usually reserved for advertising. Instead of selling products, these billboards create moments of surprise, reflection, beauty, and connection across the city.

Selected artists receive their own billboard in Los Angeles. TBC covers production, installation, and billboard space.

For four weeks, selected works are seen by millions of viewers in one of the world’s most visible art cities. Billboards are placed in high-traffic neighborhoods near galleries, museums, cultural centers, and everyday commuter routes, allowing artwork to be seen not only by the art world, but by the city itself.

TBC is open to artists working in all media — including painting, photography, sculpture, collage, mixed media, digital work, and more. If your artwork can be converted into a digital file, we can put it on a billboard.

At its core, The Billboard Creative believes that art should not be confined to galleries, museums, or private collections. Art belongs in public life. It belongs on the streets, in neighborhoods, above intersections, and in the daily path of people who may not otherwise have access to contemporary art.

Our exhibitions have reached tens of millions of viewers and have been featured by outlets including NPR, Hyperallergic, Huffington Post, The Los Angeles Times, KCRW, and more. Past TBC exhibitions have included internationally recognized artists alongside emerging and underrepresented artists from around the world.

All submissions are reviewed through a blind selection process. Selected artists receive their own billboard in Los Angeles, with TBC covering the costs of production, installation, and billboard space. Each billboard is professionally documented, and participating artists receive high-resolution images they can use for press, social media, websites, portfolios, and future opportunities.

This is more than an exhibition. It is a chance to step outside the traditional art system and place your work directly into the life of the city.

Submit your work and join us in transforming Los Angeles into a massive public art installation.

Why Submit?

Selected artists receive:

  • Their own billboard in Los Angeles for four weeks.
  • TBC-covered production, installation, and billboard space.
  • Exposure to millions of viewers across the city.
  • Professional documentation of their installed billboard.
  • Visibility beyond the traditional gallery system.
  • Inclusion in TBC’s citywide exhibition, website, public art map, press outreach, and social media promotion.
  • The opportunity to show work at a scale most artists never get to experience.

Most artists never get to see their work at this scale. This is your chance to put your work into the public life of Los Angeles.
