Call Description
Crooked Tree Arts Center - Petoskey is accepting submissions for the juried art exhibition Echoes: Revisiting Memory. Artists are invited to submit up to 3 works that engage the exhibition theme, juried by Paige Young, Assistant Professor of Photography at Kendall College of Art and Design and Photographer, the exhibition will run from Friday, September 18 to Saturday October 31, 2026, in the Gilbert Gallery at Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petoskey, Michigan.
Environments, places, and landscapes shape our memories and experiences. Echoes explores how memories lose their clarity and change as we revisit them. The exhibition invites artists to reflect on these varied reminiscences of environments that stay with us and reverberate in our minds over time.
We welcome original 2-D and 3-D works of art that engage the theme both literally and metaphorically across a wide range of media and artistic approaches created within the past 3 years. The entry fee is $30.00. Three cash prizes will be awarded: First Place $500, Second Place $300, and Third Place $200.
Submissions must be made online via CaFÉ by July 20 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. Image files must be JPEG or JPG format, 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side, under 5 MB, and in RGB color profile. Applicants must include a narrative statement describing how their work relates to the theme. Jury dates are July 21-24, 2026, with notification of results sent by email on July 27. The delivery window for accepted works is September 1-5, 2026. Artists are responsible for return shipping. The exhibition is open to the public Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
General Information
The exhibition will take place from September 18-October 31, 2026, in the Gilbert Gallery, at the Crooked Tree Arts Center, in Petoskey, Michigan.
Three cash prizes will be awarded: First Place award of $500, Second Place award of $300, and Third Place award of $200.
Applicant Calendar:
- Call and submission window open: June 5 to July 20
- Call and submission window close (midnight EST): July 20
- Jury window: July 21-24
- Notification of jury results sent (emailed): July 27
- Deadline for delivery of works during posted gallery hours (or by special, prior, mutual arrangement): September 1-September 5
- Awards selection: September 15-16
- Vernissage preview/awards announced: September 17

- Pick up work from CTAC during posted gallery hours, (or by special, prior, mutual arrangement) and return shipping: November 3-7
If shipping artwork, the artwork must arrive with a return shipping label by September 5, 2026.
Unsold artwork must be picked up during gallery hours between November 7, 2026.
Works delivered with return shipping arrangements will be returned within 2 weeks of the exhibit's end.
Application Requirements
Image File Size and Format Guidelines:
- Must meet CaFE image format requirements.
- File Type: JPEG or JPG only.
- File Dimensions: 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side.
- File Size: Under 5 MB.
- Color Profile: RGB
The call is open to artists residing in the Great Lakes Region (Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and the Canadian province of Ontario), who are at least 18 years old, are invited to submit up to 3 original works.
Submission Procedure:
- Submit up to 3 works in any visual medium, for jury.
- Include a narrative statement about how your work(s), and or practice relate to the theme Echoes.
- Entries must be submitted online via CaFÉ, and file formats must meet CaFÉ specifications (see above). Complete the required entry forms, including title, medium, size, and retail price of the work (or NFS) as well as a statement describing how your work fits the theme. Information about your works should be accurate. Titles, media, and retail prices of the works must remain the same and cannot be updated in subsequent inventory forms. Labels for invited works are generated directly from your CaFé submission.
- Invited works can be shipped or hand delivered. They must arrive within the delivery window, or special arrangements must be made, by August 18, with the Visual Arts Director. Upon arrival, works must be clearly labeled with the artist's name, artwork title, and medium; labels should be secured to the back of 2D work, or an appropriate place on 3D works. Digital works should have file names that match the original submissions.
- Shipped work must include return shipping labels. CTAC does not pay for return shipping. Artists are responsible for the transportation of works to and from Crooked Tree Arts Center, within the specified time frames.
- Please make sure that your email address is accurate, as all exhibit communication will be delivered via email.
