DIGITAL MAGIC
CALL TO ARTISTS:  PARTICIPATE IN OUR DIGITAL MAGIC COMPETITION. WORKS OF WINNING ARTISTS WILL BE EXHIBITED AT THE B.J. SPOKE GALLERY IN HUNTINGTON, NY, AUGUST, 2014.
Judge: Laurence Gartel, "FATHER" of digital art. (see bio below)
Award: Exhibition of selected works by each winning artist, 7/29/2014 - 8/23/2014 at the b.j.spoke gallery.
Eligibility: United States artists.
Juror's Statement: As we live in the NOW, the "Magic of Digital" is upon all of us. It is a time when the Digital Medium is at our fingertips. The world embraces it.  Innovation, however is in the hands of the Artists. How does one use technology to showcase a personal aesthetic?  This show will demonstrate the various uses, and visions which creative thinkers apply to their image-making process. This show is in search of those that push the envelope. Digital photography, digital painting, 3D modeling, 3D printing, web based artwork, digital installation, video, phonography, mobile device display, and mixed media works are all potential objects for exhibition.
Liability: All material will be handled with the utmost care. However, b.j. spoke gallery will not be responsible for loss or damage.
Instructions: Installation pieces must be installed and removed by the artist. All work must be framed and wired and/or display-ready. Use plexiglass only – no glass. Artists are responsible for shipping their own work to and from the exhibit.Videos chosen for the exhibition should be mailed on DVD and will be played in loop format.

LAURENCE GARTEL
Laurence Gartel is known around the world as the "FATHER" of Digital Art for almost 40 years. His career started working with video guru Nam June Paik at Media Study/Buffalo in 1975, before the birth of the personal computer. Mr. Gartel taught Andy Warhol how to use the Amiga Computer when Warhol received the commission to produce the Debbie Harry (Blondie) album cover. Gartel's work has been exhibited with the Museum  of Modern Art, Joan Whitney Payson Museum, Norton Museum of Art, Princeton Art Museum,  Long Beach Museum of Art, PS.1 and many others.
HIs commissions include:  ABSOLUT GARTEL for Absolut Vodka, FORBES, Bang & Olufsen, Philip Morris, Coca Cola,  Swatch, Commerzbank, National Basketball Association (NBA) to name a few. He has created  artwork for celebrities such as Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Red Hot Chili Peppers, AC/DC, and Versace.
For the last four (4) years GARTEL has been creating Art Cars the first  one being the Electric Roadster for Tesla. Mr. GARTEL was the Featured Guest of the New York  International Auto Show with his own Pavilion of 30,000 square feet. Since he has produced over two dozen one-of-a-kind vehicles.
