Call Description

Gallery 114 is proud to announce our upcoming community juried exhibition titled, Illuminated which will bring a range of artists together to celebrate the magic of light in the late days of Winter. This exhibition is being produced in conjunction with Portland’s popular annual Winter Light Festival which runs Feb. 5-13, 2027 and will be an official program of that event receiving promotion and other benefits from that organization.

This call is open to 2D and 3D artists who create works whose primary focus is light. Artwork will be chosen for its high quality and well as its strong connection to the theme. This could include chiaroscuro, luminescent environments, atmospheric or diffused lighting, referencing spiritual or sacred spaces, or elements within the piece that are lit or illuminated. No limitations--just show us your interpretation of Illuminated. A Juror’s Award for Best of Show will be presented during the opening reception. We encourage emerging and established artists within the NW Oregon and SW Washington areas to apply.

2D art is limited in size to 48x48”. Artwork must have secure, professional hanging hardware or it will not be accepted.

3D art size is limited based on the mounting: Wall mounted is: 24x36”, Free standing to 36x36x72” and on a Pedestal to 12x12x24”. Work needs to be able to sit safely and securely either on the floor or on a pedestal without danger of falling or if it is a wall piece, that there is professional and secure mounting hardware in place.

For both 2D & 3D works, if they contain some type of lighting apparatus it must be incorporated in a safe and professional manner. Battery powered artwork is encouraged over plug-in. We are limited to a very small amount of plug-in work due to our outlet capacity.

The exhibit will be held in our North Gallery and will be opening on First Thursday, February 4, 2027, 5-8pm and close on Saturday, February 27 at 4pm. A Guest Artist Meet and Greet will be held on Saturday, February 20 from 1-3pm. Gallery 114 is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 5pm, and will be open until 9pm on Fridays and Saturday during the Portland Winter Lights Festival, Feb. 5-13, 2027. Accepted artwork will also be accessible to view on our website, www.gallery114.com.

At Gallery 114, you can “expect the unexpected” because we are artist-owned and artist-run. We encourage our members and guest artists to take risks and explore new and different creative efforts with underlying quality and integrity.
