iDEAS_14 is an international exhibition of innovative digital art, design, and new media.  The iDEAS_14 exhibition coincides with the 12th annual International Digital Media and Arts Association (IDMAA) conference, to be held on the campus of Utah Valley University (UVU), near Provo, UT, from November 5th-7th.  Digital art and design works may be submitted in a variety of media, such as interactive pieces, animation, games, video, printed imagery, virtual spaces, sound, sculpture and hybrid media.

Artists whose work is accepted will qualify for:
  • participation in the IDEAS_14 Exhibition at Utah Valley University
  • a $50 discount on their conference registration
  • a complimentary printed catalog documenting the exhibition
  • award plaques and certificates
  • consideration for participation in artist talks at the conference
  • inclusion in the online gallery at http://idmaa.org/ (uploaded after conference)
The exhibit opening will take place on November 5th, the opening night of the conference.  The event will be open to all conference attendees, UVU faculty and students, as well as the surrounding community. The exhibition will be on display for the duration of the conference and featured in the online gallery after the conference.
 
Exhibition Information & Requirements
Submitted work must have been created within the past three years and utilize digital media in some stage of the creation process.
Suggested Media (Including, but not limited to):
  • Printed Imagery
  • Interactive/Digital Installations
  • 3D Printed Sculptures
  • Web sites and Internet art
  • Short time-based films, videos, and animations (under 5 minutes)
  • Sculptural works
  • Sound Art
  • Video Games
Exhibition facilities and equipment provided by the conference:
  • Walls/Structures for hanging work
  • Pedestals for 3D and computer/tablet based work
  • Screening area that will project a compilation of time-based work
  • DVD/Blu-Ray Players
  • Digital Projectors
  • Flat panel Monitors
  • Speakers and/or Headphones
  • Electricity
  • Wi-Fi
 
Shipping, Equipment & Installation
While complex projects are encouraged, participants are responsible for:
  • all packaging/shipping
  • any equipment not listed above
  • any installation labor if work is not hang/pedestal ready
IDMAA is not responsible for any damage to work during shipping or installation.  Accepted work must be ready for installation in a gallery setting.
 
Submission Process
Artists may submit up to three images (or URLs for time-based/interactive work). The images/URLs can represent up to three works.  If submitting time-based/interactive work, please use a screenshot as your image, and include the URL in the image description.
After submitting the three images/URLs, there will be a one-time, non-refundable $35 credit card payment. This fee will be used to cover miscellaneous costs involved with the exhibition (see above) and help IDMAA continue to offer professional artistic exhibitions.
 
Jurors
The 2014 panel of jurors is made up of a select group of professionals from the digital arts, design, and new media community, and will be announced in the coming months.  In addition to selecting the works, the jury will also assign all awards, which include a Juror’s Choice Award, Innovation Award, and Best in Show Award.  There will also be an Audience Choice Award, voted on by conference attendees.

STUDENT SHOWCASE (FOR UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENTS/PROGRAMS)
Do you have students in your program that consistently stretch their artistic and technical boundaries?  Celebrate student accomplishments and show off what your programs are doing by showcasing at Fast Forward/2014.
The iDMAa Student Showcase is a great opportunity for programs to recognize students who are pushing the boundaries of digital art and design, and is open to all academic programs focusing on digital media instruction. All submitted work will be exhibited at the Student Showcase during the conference, via provided wall space, monitors, and tables. Each program’s faculty will work with students to pre-select projects that reflect innovation and creativity in the application of if digital art and design.  Submissions can be made in any/all of the following showcase divisions:
DIGITAL ART & DESIGN
Works of digital art in all media including but not limited to, individual or team-based student digital design, illustration, interactive works; animation; video/film; installations, game art, and 3D modeling.
DIGITAL MEDIA RESEARCH
Posters and project displays, and demonstrations of new research in Digital Media technologies and applications.
GAME DESIGN
Complete games and working prototypes. Game projects must have been completed within the last 2 years by students whose graduation date falls between 2014 and 2018.
AWARDS
Awards for Digital Art & Design, Research in Digital Media, and Game Design, and an overall Jury Showcase Award for a program exhibiting the best overall showcase will be presented at the conference. Outstanding student work and programs will be selected by a panel of distinguished jurors at the conference.
SUBMISSION
Faculty may submit up to ten images (or URLs for time-based/interactive work).  If submitting time-based/interactive work, please use a screenshot as your image, and include the URL in the image description.
While the cost for submission is $35 (a one-time, non-refundable credit card payment), the showcase fee for a department/program is $300.  After paying the $35 fee, you will have $265 left to pay (you will see this as an option fee, titled “Student Showcase Participation Fee (for School Departments)”. This fee will reserve your spot in the showcase, and allow your department and students to be eligible for the above mentioned student showcase awards.  This feel also allows IDMAA to to cover miscellaneous costs involved with the exhibition (see above) and help to continue to offer professional artistic exhibitions and showcases.
