PROJECT GOALS
In 2015, Metro Arts Alliance will celebrate its 40th Anniversary.  To commemorate this milestone, the organization will commission a piece of public art that symbolizes the vision and values of the organization and that will engage visitors at the Des Moines Arts Festival.

The goal of the project is completion of a work of art to be created at the 2015 Des Moines Arts Festival and permanently sited at the Des Moines International Airport as Metro Arts’ gift to Iowa.  Metro Arts seeks proposals from artists living and working in Iowa for public art initiative that:

·       Celebrates the positive impact of the arts in the community
·       Involves the collaborative participation of community members of all ages in the creation process, culminating with the 2015 Des Moines Arts Festival
·       Is fabricated using primarily found and/or re-cycled materials, in keeping with Metro Arts’ “Green Arts” theme
·       Contains an educational component that teaches participants about the medium of creation and/or conservation
·       Is durable enough for long-term exhibition.

Over 200,000 people of all ages who attend the Des Moines Arts Festival will have an opportunity to view the work in process and participate in its creation.
