Buttonwood Art Space will host the annual VISIONS OF THE FLINT HILLS BENEFIT AND SALE to benefit research and preservation of the Flint Hills area of Kansas. The 8,600 acre Konza Prairie and the surrounding Flint Hills region contain the largest remaining parcels of the Tallgrass prairie that once covered 140 million acres in North America. In 2008, the Tallgrass Prairie was named one of the eight wonders of the State of Kansas. VISIONS OF THE FLINT HILLS BENEFIT AND SALE is a juried exhibition featuring art of this vanishing prairie. All artworks depict or are derived from the Flint Hills area of Kansas. The exhibit will run from October 2 through November 27, 2015, at Buttonwood Art Space, 3013 Main Street, Kansas City, Missouri, 64108. Net proceeds from the event benefit Friends of the Konza Prairie which organization promotes educational research and experiences in the Konza Prairie Biological Station, an area of the Flint Hills just south of Manhattan, Kansas.  The Konza is an 8,600 acre tallgrass preserve which includes a biological field station dedicated to research, education and conservation of the tallgrass prairie ecosystem. Konza Prairie is a preserve of The Nature Conservancy managed by K-State's Division of Biology.
The region's sweeping horizons and carpets of wildflowers captivate artists and enchant visitors. Open to paintings, photographs, fiber, video and 3-D works derived from or depicting the Flint Hills geographic area in Kansas. Categories are: Painting, Photography, 3-D, Other (includes flat fiber pieces, drawings, video, and non-traditional). DEADLINE EXTENDED TO: August 23, 2015. All entries must be submitted through CaFE at www.callforentry.org. Artists may submit up to four pieces for a non-refundable $25.00 fee. Juror: Cally Krallman. Awards=$500 Best of Show; $100 First Place in each category. All artwork will be juried on a piece by piece basis. All works will be 50% of sale to artist and net 50% to Friends of Konza Prairie, a 501(c)(3) charity. Ship all artworks to Buttonwood Art Space by September 18, 2015 ATTN: Visions Show, Buttonwood Art Space, 3013 Main Street, Kansas City, Mo 64108, 816-285-9040.
