Call Description

Location 1980, a contemporary artist-run gallery located in Costa Mesa, California, invites both local and national artists to submit original works of art for our 2015 exhibit titled ANIMAL SPIRIT. Artists can enter up to two pieces for consideration; every medium is encouraged to enter.

We are looking to celebrate the mystique and spirit of animals through a collection of diverse pieces of art. Throughout history animals have inspired artists in a myriad of ways. Animals allow artists to explore the essence of different forms of life as well as connect to nature. Animals can be anything from dazzlingly elegant to ferociously vicious, we are looking for artwork that really connects to the soul and nature of an animal.  All works of art that portray animals will be considered. Feel free to include a description on how your piece relates to the spirit of the animal you're portraying.

Location 1980 is a eclectic art space for visual artists’ offering many venues, there is a gallery space for solo artist exhibits or group shows and exhibitions, we have working artist studios on the premises as well as community studio space for rent. Location 1980 also offers its studio & gallery space to the community for a multitude of activities including workshops, private parties, painting parties and video release premiers.  We are committed to cultivating an organic environment, in which artists can thrive, flourish, nurture their skills and share work publicly. It is our mission to provide local and national artists a unique, positive and inspiring place to attend exhibits and or create freely.

Entries for our  Animal Spirit  must be received buy Aug 1st 2015  selected artists will be notified by aug 10th, 2015
Art work must be recieved by Aug 30th, 2015

Artwork received via Mail: artist is responsible for shipping costs, including a return shipping prepaid postage label, which should be sent with the artwork.

Artwork must be received ready to hang or display. Maximum weight is 50 lbs.  All artwork must remain on display in the gallery during the entire show, unless it is sold. 

Location 1980 retains 30% commission on any work sold during the exhibition.

Location 1980 has the right to reject any work that does not meet the quality standards for the exhibit or is not what was represented on the images supplied by the artist.
