Description
Along with 3 invitational exhibitions for the gallery year, Clay Art Center will host TRISTATE OF MIND, a regional juried exhibition from January 30 through March 19, 2016. TRISTATE OF MIND, juried by gallerist and curator Leslie Ferrin, will gather a contemporary cross-section of emerging artists within a 75 mile radius of Clay Art Center’s facility in Port Chester, NY. The focus of this show is to visually represent the culture, trends, and theories surrounding clay practice in the region. The culminating exhibit will showcase a breadth of work ranging from academic, alternative, traditional, and post-industrial objects; functional, installation, and sculptural work will be represented. Artists who apply to this exhibit or participate in other 2016 exhibitions will be asked to complete a short survey as to why they work in the New York area and where they see the field going.

In 2016 Clay Art Center is curating IN OUR BACKYARD, a year-long focus on the medium of clay for artists who have gravitated to the New York metropolitan area and identify themselves as regionally-based ceramic artists.Clay Art Center envisions a multi catalog project archiving the 2016 gallery year focused in regional works. TRISTATE OF MIND will be included in the collection of catalogs.
