PLEASE READ THIS PROSPECTUS CAREFULLY PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION TO NEW REGISTRATION PROCEDURES. ELIGIBILITY THE JUROR INVITED ARTISTS REGISTRATION ENTRY FEES Non-Member Entry Fee: Member Entry Fee:
Participation in the Hawai'i Craftsmen 2015, 48th Annual Statewide Juried Exhibition is open to emerging and established artists residing in the state of Hawai'i. Hawai'i Craftsmen defines an emerging artist as someone who is in the early stage of their art career. They are someone who has caught the eye of an art critic or gallery, but hasn’t yet established a solid reputation as an artist among critics, art collectors, or galleries. Age is not a deciding factor.
Entries must be of original design and created independently within the last two years. Works previously shown at the Honolulu Museum of Art School or previously displayed in a juried exhibition on O'ahu are not eligible.
Online registration of entries opens July 1, 2015 and closes September 29, 2015, 7:59 PM Hawaiian Standard Time. Mail-in registrations or entries submitted after the September 29, 2015 will not be accepted. Only completed entries registered via the CaFE online registration system will be accepted for physical intake and jurying on the dates designated in the prospectus. No new entries will be accepted on intake/jurying days. Artwork that differs from the entries registered in CaFE and delivered on intake days for jurying will not be allowed in the show.
Each artist may submit a maximum of six artworks for consideration.
The juror reserves the right to a final selection of accepted works; therefore, the decision of the juror is final.
Artists from neighbor islands are responsible for shipping their accepted artwork to the Honolulu Museum of Art School with delivery to the main gallery no later than October 23, 2015. Late arrivals or entries that pose a shipping problem may not be accepted. Artists maintain sole responsibility for the timely delivery of their artwork to the gallery.
Insurance of work in transit to the intake locations and to the Honolulu Museum of Art School is the sole responsibility of the artist. Hawai'i Craftsmen will be responsible for return shipping only, including insurance coverage with a value of no more than $150 per piece. Hawai'i Craftsmen and the Honolulu Museum of Art School officers, members, volunteers, representatives, or anyone connected with the exhibition will not assume liability for loss or damage sustained during the exhibition or in return shipping to neighbor islands in excess of $150, with no exceptions. Return shipping carriers, including USPS, UPS, FedEx, or Young Brothers, will be chosen at the discretion of the Hawai'i Craftsmen Board of Directors. Participants are advised to carry supplemental insurance on their artwork or make alternative shipping arrangements for the return of artwork, if desired.
Entries that pose installation problems or cannot be installed properly may not be accepted or, if accepted, the artist may be required to help install the work. All accepted artwork must be ready for presentation with suitable devices for hanging, installing, mounting, and displaying in a professional manner. Hawai'i Craftsmen will not install or display any works arriving with damage. Artists shipping work should make arrangements to appropriately repair any damaged work prior to completion of installation on Monday, October 26, 2015. All entries submitted for display are at the owner’s risk.
Accepted artwork will remain installed in the exhibition for the length of the show. Hawai'i Craftsmen and the Honolulu Museum of Art School cannot store artwork and cannot accept responsibility for artwork not retrieved from drop-off locations by designated pick-up times.
The Hawai'i Craftsmen commission for the sale of exhibited works of members is 40%; for non-members it is 50%.
All work is subject to photographic reproduction for educational and/or publicity purposes. Permission is automatically granted to Hawai'i Craftsmen to make photographic reproductions of or to use high quality uploaded images of accepted entries to be used in the exhibition catalog; on the Hawai'i Craftsmen website; and for public relations, marketing, promotional, archival, and documentation purposes in both digital and hard copy format. Artist’s rights are retained.
