PAINTING AND SEEING is an international exhibition juried by John Beerman and sponsored by the University of North Carolina Wilmington Department of Art & Art History. The exhibition will feature paintings based on observation of the world around us.
ELIGIBILITY
Paintings based on observation of the world around us. All submissions must be original and unique works of art. Works cannot exceed UPS of FedEx weight or size limits.
PROCEDURE FOR ENTRY
All entries must be submitted through CaFE, www.callforentry.org>, by Sunday, November 15, 2015. Each artist may submit digital images of up to three entries.
ENTRY FEE
A non-refundable entry fee of $30 for up to 3 works must accompany each entry. Payment is made through Café only.
AWARDS
First Place: $500
Second Place: $300
Third Place: $200
JURYING
Artwork for the exhibition and awards will be selected by the juror on the basis of the digital images. Entries will be judged for quality and concept in relation to the theme of the exhibition. The juror may withhold works that are misrepresented by digital submissions. The juror’s decision is final.
JOHN BEERMAN, JUROR
John Beerman is a painter whose work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. He attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Beerman has received numerous awards and fellowships including the Pollack-Krasner Foundation Award and the Yaddo Artist Colony Fellowship. His work is represented in many museums including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. He has completed several public commissions including a mural in the Craftsteak restaurant at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas and recently an eighty-five foot mural in the I.M. Pei designed Milstein Family Heart Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.

EXHIBITION
Artwork included in PAINTING AND SEEING will be on view
February 25 – April 7, 2015 in the Art Gallery at the Cultural Arts Building on the University of North Carolina Wilmington campus. A reception will be held on Thursday, February 25 from 5:30 – 7.00 p.m. including a juror lecture by John Beerman at 6.00 p.m. in the gallery.
GALLERY
The Art Gallery at the Cultural Arts Building hosts national, international, student and faculty exhibits serving as a key educational component of the Department of Art & Art History at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. The Art Gallery is a resource for the department, university campus, and the Wilmington community. A public reception is held for each exhibit and all exhibitions are free and open to the public.
The Art Gallery is located on the corner of Randall Parkway and Reynolds Drive on the UNCW campus. The Art Gallery is open Monday through Friday from noon until 4 p.m. The Art Gallery is closed during university holidays.
SALES
A commission of 30 percent will be retained by UNCW on all sales. A sale price of ‘Not for Sale’ (NFS) value must be indicated for all work that is not for sale. Artwork priced as NFS should have a value exclusive of commission for insurance purposes.
SHIPMENT OF ACCEPTED ARTWORK
Artists whose artwork is accepted for the exhibition will be notified via email by Tuesday, December 15, 2015 with detailed shipping instructions. All shipping and insurance fees while in transit are the responsibility of the artist.
