The proposed artwork must be 3-dimensional, free-standing and appropriate for display in a public place (please, no proposals for murals, paintings, or sculptures that require mounting on a flat surface).  Durability, on-going maintenance requirements, and resilience to year-round weather conditions will be priorities for acceptance.  Materials may be (but are not limited to) metal, fiberglass, plastic, stone, ceramic, or any other durable material that can withstand the elements (rain, hail, sun, snow, extreme fluctuations in temperature, wind, etc.).  Please see the attached document for more details about the bases and locations.  Installation is planned for May 2016.

The expected budget for each piece of artwork is $5,000 - $8,000, depending on the size of the piece.  The application must include a total budget amount of the request, including transportation, and installation expenses.  Artists will be responsible for insuring their artwork during transport and installation and will also be required to obtain a business license from the City of Durango (approximately $80). The City can provide some equipment and personnel to support the artist in the installation of the piece, including tack welding if necessary.  Application should include a description of any equipment and support needed for installation.

Although this Call to Artists is on a rolling deadline, the first round of review and decisions will be made in February 2016.  Those artists who submit their applications before January 31, 2016 will be given priority in the selection process.
