The Allegany Arts Council is pleased to announce the call for entries into the Allegany
nNational Photography Competition and Exhibition, to be held at the Saville and Schwab
nGalleries in downtown Cumberland through the entire month of April 2016.

nThis 2nd Annual event will meld the region’s rich concentration of photographic artists
nwith an influx of national photographers in a juried competition for over $5000 in cash
nprizes. The juror will be Stephen Perloff, founder and editor of The Photo Review. The
nopening reception will be held on Saturday, April 9th from 6-8 pm. Prizes will be
nawarded at a special event immediately following the reception.

nApplication requirements and restrictions
nMaximum 2 entries per category. (Maximum 6 entries per photographer.)

nCategories and Descriptions
nPlease read these three category descriptions carefully. You may submit no more than two entries in each category and no more than six entries total for the competition.

nCategory 1: Color
nOriginal photographic works created in the last three years printed in color on any two-dimensional medium/substrate (paper, canvas, metal, etc.) and using any process (wet darkroom, computer, etc), max 48” in width, professionally presented and wired for hanging.

nCategory 2: Black and White
nOriginal photographic works created in the last three years printed in black and white on any two-dimensional medium/substrate (paper, canvas, metal, etc.) and using any process (wet darkroom, computer, etc), max 48” in width, professionally presented and wired for hanging.

nCategory 3: Multi-dimensional
nAny work that contains as it’s primary element an original photograph or photographs in any format or medium, but does not fit into either of the other two categories. The photograph(s) can be time-varying or static and may be embedded in an external construct of the artist’s creation. The work must be ready for display; free-standing, placed on a pedestal, or wired for hanging. Works should not weigh more than 30 lbs. or exceed 48 inches in any dimension. If needed, standard electrical AC power (60Hz, 120V) is available.

nExamples of multi-dimensional entries include such things as: 3D art made from photographic prints, electronic media (not video), images printed on 3D substrates (wood, stone), and encaustic.

nPlease note: No entries containing video or other forms of motion capture will be accepted. However, you may submit a video of your entry to give the juror a better understanding of the dimensionality of your work. Such a video will count as a single entry. If you are submitting a video of your entry, do not submit a digital image of your entry. You are only allowed to submit one video or one digital image per entry.

nThe judge reserves the right to not present an award in any category if insufficient quantity or quality is in evidence.
