Spokane Arts Commission OPEN CALL for submissions for the Chase Gallery

Deadline:  September, 16 2016  - 5 PM PST

The Chase Gallery submissions are open for the 2017 season.

We are seeking artists for the Winter and Fall Exhibition schedules. See below.

***
Winter: Spokane Arts Commission is seeking work from Artists of Color for the Winter exhibition schedule (January through March.) The reception will take place on the February Visual Arts Tour.

Identities of race and culture are fluid, ancient, or new. Whether your work directly addresses your cultural experience or not we are interested in sharing it with a wide audience.

The artwork will be selected by a diverse panel of jurors. Work will be selected based on the following criteria: strong concept, originality, and craftsmanship.

Please indicate in your statement if you are submitting for the WINTER exhibition.

***
Fall: Spokane Arts Commission
is seeking tactile and interactive work for the Fall exhibition schedule (October through December.) We are seeking work from artists who are vision impaired OR create work that can be experienced in other ways besides visually. We were inspired by a group of children who visited the gallery. They wanted to touch the paintings. Why shouldn’t they experience the artwork on a deeper, multi-sensory level? In that case why couldn’t everyone?

The artwork will be selected by a diverse panel of jurors. Work will be selected based on the following criteria: the work should be able to be experienced through touch, have a strong concept, originality, and craftsmanship.

Please indicate in your statement if you are submitting for the FALL exhibition.

The Chase Gallery is a community art exhibition space adjacent to the City Council Chambers in the Spokane City Hall, 808 W Spokane Falls Blvd., Spokane, WA. It features a wide range of exhibitions by local and regional artists from contemporary to traditional.  The visitors to the Chase Gallery include art aficionados, citizens, tourists, and inadvertent art viewers coming to meetings and to conduct city business.  Gallery hours are weekdays 8 am to 5 pm and throughout the City Council Meetings on Monday evenings.  Chase Gallery receptions are part of Spokane’s First Friday event.  Exhibitions are for three months duration.  Please consider the public nature of the audience and the exhibition space.

Proposals can come from individual artists, groups of artists, art associations or affiliations, or curators from the Inland Northwest region of Washington, Idaho and Oregon.  The gallery has limited equipment for digital media and limited sculpture display cases.   Extremely small works and jewelry are not appropriate. All artworks are insured by the City of Spokane while on exhibit but artworks in transit must be insured by the owner or representative of the artwork.

Proposals will be reviewed by the Programming (Exhibiting) Committee of the Spokane Arts Commission for the 2017 exhibition year.

Artists should provide:
·         Resume of art exhibits and related experience
·         Portfolio of images of exemplary works
·         Artist statement or description of what is proposed
