Mix It Up! Contemporary Mixed Media seeks to exhibit the best of contemporary art and invites submissions that reflect a wide range of styles and imagery that incorporate a minimum of three different media in addition to the base material. This juried exhibition will showcase innovative works that explore unique combinations of materials, techniques, and methods as well as unexpected relationships between concept and media.

Royal Contemporary is committed to energizing creative diversity in the Pike’s Peak Region, by encouraging dialog about contemporary art and artists. Rotating exhibitions expose the public to all types of insightful and challenging forms of visual art, bringing nationally known artists to Main Street, Florence. The gallery opened in May 2014 to promote contemporary visual art in southern Colorado by showcasing an exciting mix of high quality works by established artists from around the country. The Gallery features original painting, sculpture, mixed media, digital photography, encaustic, ceramics, jewelry and glass.

Eligibility: Mix It Up! Contemporary Mixed Media is open to all artists over 18 years of age working in mixed media. All art must be original, completed in the last two years, and available through the entire run of the show. All works must be for sale.

Exhibition: Selected artists will be featured in a group exhibition at Royal Contemporary in Florence, Colorado from July 30, 2016 through September 18, 2016. There will be a reception for the artists on Saturday, August 13. The exhibition will also be posted on the Royal Contemporary web site. The exhibition will be promoted with professionally printed invitations, email announcements, website presence for all selected artists on the gallery’s website, an opening reception, and regional press.

Application: For each work submitted, the artist must provide a brief description including title, dimensions, and specific media used. Artist must submit a minimum of three works and up to 5 works. Each entry should be represented by clearly focused, well-lit images on a neutral background that accurately represents the work submitted. Work exhibited in a frame must include the frame in the digital image.

Size Specifications: Two-dimensional works, when displayed, cannot exceed 36” in height and 36” in width, including frame. Three-dimensional works cannot exceed 60 inches in height, 36 inches in width, and 36 “ in depth, or weigh over 60 pounds.

Selection: Work will be judged from digital images. Selection will be based on the overall quality of the work and its’ support if the goals of the exhibition.

Juror

Lisa Steele owns and operates Royal Contemporary, the premier contemporary fine art gallery in Florence, Colorado.

Lisa is a sculptor who works primarily in clay and mixed media. Her work involves the sculptural interpretation of land forms. They are simplified and abstracted into fundamental shapes and elements to capture the essence and spirit of the place. Inspiration for her work are landscape forms of rock, vegetation, sand. Light and scale are emphasized in order to give the viewer a feeling of being dwarfed by the landscape. She has been exhibiting her work professionally for over 25 years, and holds a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University, School of Visual and Performing Arts.

Shipping: Artists are be responsible for all shipping and insurance costs both to and from Royal Contemporary. The Gallery will require prepayment of any shipping/ insurance costs for the return of each artwork. Please include either a prepaid return shipping label or FedEx account number with the incoming shipment. C.O.D. packages will NOT be accepted. All shipped work must be received by Royal Contemporary no later than July 22, 2016. Artwork may be delivered in person with prior arrangement.

Work MUST be shipped in STURDY REUSABLE containers and include repacking instructions. Crates or containers must weigh under 100 pounds and be easily managed by two people. The artist will be charged for replacement costs if the shipping container is damaged, destroyed, or found to be insufficient. Detailed instructions will be sent to those artists whose works are accepted for the exhibition.
