A Juried Exhibition

Umpqua Valley Arts Association is proud to present an open call for artists to submit work to our upcoming exhibit: Printmaking NOW! This juried exhibition will explore ideas and various modes of contemporary printmaking.

Submission Deadline: March 10, 2017

Exhibit dates: May 5 – June 25, 2017

Juror: Charlene Liu Born in Taiwan and raised in the American Midwest, Charlene Liu is an Associate Professor and Printmaking Coordinator in the Department of Art at the University of Oregon, Eugene. Combining printmaking and digital processes, Liu’s work juxtaposes the natural landscape, cultural tropes, and biographical references to explore complexities of identity and place. She received her MFA from Columbia University (New York) in 2003 and a BA from Brandeis University (Waltham, MA) in 1997. Recent noteworthy exhibitions include a solo show at Elizabeth Leach Gallery (Portland, OR) and site projects for the Portland Biennial 2016 at Crow’s Shadow Institute for the Arts and the Rivoli Theater in Pendleton, OR. Liu has exhibited work at the Schneider Museum (Ashland, OR), the Tacoma Museum of Art (Tacoma, WA), Disjecta Contemporary Art Center (Portland, OR), Shaheen Modern & Contemporary (Cleveland, OH), Taylor de Cordoba Gallery (Los Angeles), Galeria Il Capricorno (Venice, Italy), and Andrea Rosen Gallery 2 (New York). Her work is represented in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the New Museum (New York), the Tacoma Art Museum, corporate and private collections.

Rules of Entry:
Eligibility: Eligible to all artists using printmaking as a media to submit up to (3) entries in all themes and printmaking processes. Work must be an edition. All work must be display-ready upon arrival.  UVAA commission rates are 30% for UVAA members and 40% for non-members.  Entries must be original works of art and entirely created by the entrant. No work will be accepted into this show which is in violation of any copyright. Artwork must have been completed within the last two years.  Work must not have been previously exhibited at UVAA.  

Entry Fee:  Non-refundable $30 (non members) and $20 (UVAA members) fee for 1–3 artwork entries. (if applicable, Checks payable to UVAA)

Awards: 1st Place: $300, 2nd Place: $200, 3rd Place: $100

Criteria:

  • Entries submitted must be digital jpeg files. Entries and awards will be judged by the juror from digital jpeg files. All entries must be made through the CaFE website (www.callforentry.org
  • Artists may not substitute another work for an accepted work nor withdraw the work once it is accepted.
  • All entries must be for sale. 
  • All artwork must fit through a standard 3-foot wide door and weigh less than 50 lbs.
  • UVAA reserves the right to refuse upon arrival any work that does not match the image or meet hanging criteria or is of unacceptable quality.
  • UVAA reserves the right to reproduce artwork from digital images for publicity purposes.

Digital Entry File Requirements:
Images must be uploaded to your portfolio inside of your free Cafe account in order to submit. Upload requirements on Cafe: Upload options for image files

    •    File format: JPEG only

    •    File dimensions: No smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side

    •    File resolution: 72 ppi/dpi (standard web resolution)

    •    File size: up to 5 MB maximum

 

Shipping and Delivery of Accepted Artworks: Art Center hours are Tuesday – Friday, 10am - 4pm and Saturday 10am – 2pm. Work may be hand delivered or shipped, in order to be received at UVAA between April 25th and May 1st.  Artwork will be the responsibility of the artist until it is received by UVAA. Each artist will be responsible for shipping costs to and from UVAA.  Complete instructions will be included with acceptance letter. UVAA will insure each accepted work for 60% of its value from the time of arrival at UVAA until it is released to the shipping agent
