PUNCH Projects presents: Barnstorm at Bluestone Garage
SODO district, Ellensburg, WA

Building on a 10-year history of successful art exhibitions and projects across the Northwest, PUNCH Projects presents Barnstorm - a series of pop-up exhibitions activating rural spaces in unexpected ways with art, music and creative installations. The first event in the series, “Barnstorm at Bluestone Garage,” will be a free two-day art event that transforms the rustic Model KE building in Ellensburg’s SODO district into an exhibition that will highlight works through use of projections and digital prints gathered from an international call to artists. All forms of media are accepted, and each accepted artist (except video and audio) will receive a large format print of their work.

Exhibition dates: April 7th and 8th, 2017

Hours: First Friday opening: 5pm-10pm, Saturday: noon-4pm

Media Requirements: All forms of images will be considered: photo-based works, photos of 2-d artwork, photos of installation, new media, sculpture, or other 3-d work, and photo stills from video works. Video clips, full-length video works and audio works are also welcome and encouraged. You may submit a total of 10 image files, 6 video files, 6 audio files or a combination of file types not to exceed 10 in total.

Entry Fee: $15 first entry - $5 each additional entry

Timeline:
March 5 - Submission deadline 10pm Pacific Time Zone
March 12 - Notification of accepted artists
March 19 - Deadline to receive high-resolution images and videos from accepted artists
April 7 - Opening reception with drinks, music and good times, 8pm-Close
April 8 - Exhibit open from 12-4pm
April 10-21 - PUNCH will ship digital prints to artists

Submission guidelines: The exhibition will be comprised of large-format printed images, video monitors and projections juried by the PUNCH Projects BOD (Renee Adams, Howard Barlow, Justin Beckman and Justin Gibbens). Instead of original pieces of art, selected artists will be given instructions to provide a high-resolution digital image file or video file of the chosen work(s); large format prints of the selected images will be created from the files and hung in the space. Video works will be displayed via monitors and projections directly onto the interior and exterior walls of the building. PUNCH will direct any sales inquiries to the artist. PUNCH Projects will pay the cost of shipping prints to the artists after the exhibition closes.

There is no theme to the call; however, we encourage submissions that consider how a work might speak to the dialogue between urban and rural sensibilities, as well as images and videos that might operate in a non-traditional exhibition space of this sort.

As “Barnstorm at Bluestone Garage” will kick off the first in a series of rural art exhibitions, all submissions will be considered for subsequent PUNCH Projects events.

About Us: Founded in 2006, PUNCH Projects (formerly PUNCH Gallery) has worked to promote visual art made from artists outside of the urban centers.
