INTRODUCATION:
Floyd Center for the Arts, located in beautiful, rural Floyd VA, invites visual media artists within 150 miles of Floyd to submit artwork for exhibition in the New River Art Biennial 2017.   The Floyd Center for the Arts, a nonprofit community arts center, is a renovated dairy barn that promotes the area’s rich artistic movement, by providing artistic events, exhibitions and connections with the more heavily populated areas of Roanoke VA, Blacksburg VA and Greensboro NC.  This is the 14th New River Art Biennial exhibition.  This exhibit rotates every two years between this Floyd Center for the Arts, the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley (FACNRV) in Pulaski and the Blacksburg Regional Art Association.  Top cash prize for this exhibition is $500, and other cash prizes and honorable mentions will be awarded.  Artwork will be selected by Juror Amy Shawley of Virginia.  This exhibit is open to all artists 18 years of age or older that live within 150 miles of Floyd.  Work must be original and executed within the past two years. Video, audio, and performing works of art are not accepted for this exhibition.  Exhibit dates are June 9 to August 5, 2017.  Opening Reception on Saturday, June 17, 2017.

ABOUT THE JUROR:
Amy Shawley is a Virginia-based visual artist whose painting and illustration is inspired by the natural world.  Her work incorporates fauna, flora, landscapes, and textures she has encountered during her travels and everyday life.

After earning her Art History degree, developing her love of paint, and exhibiting her work in New York and LA, Amy was selected and trained in 2008 by Golden Artist Colors for their Working Artist Program.  She taught and lectured in their southern California territory for six years then relocated back east to offer painting lectures in Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware.  

Amy teaches art workshops nationally, offers online education, and published her first book in 2015, Acrylic Texture Techniques: Rock, Metal and Wood.

Floyd Center for the Arts’ mission is to facilitate and showcase artistic endeavors and creativity; to provide education in the arts throughout our rural community and region.

ELIGIBILITY: 
Artists must live within 150 miles of the Floyd Center for the Arts.  Open to all artists 18 years of age or older.  Work must be original and executed within the past two years.
 
MEDIA:
All fine arts and fine craft media including painting, sculpture, graphics, ceramics, textiles, mixed media, photography, time-based/new media and installation are accepted. Handicrafts are not eligible.  Artist may submit up to three (3) artworks.

SUBMISSION OF ARTWORK:
Visit www.callforentry.org to submit your images.  A total of THREE (3) works of art may be submitted for jurying per artist. Submitted digital images should represent the quality and nature of the work. Work that is considerably different than the submitted images may not be accepted.  Artists must submit an image showing the artwork in its entirety.  Artists may submit a secondary image showing a detailed section of the work.  Artists submitting 3D works may submit up to three (3) images per work of art. A total of up to nine (9) images may be submitted of the THREE (3) artworks submitted for consideration by the Juror.
 
CALENDAR:
Application deadline Tuesday, April 25, 2017 (Midnight, Mountain Standard Time)
Notifications sent no later than Friday, May 12, 2017
Shipped work must arrive between Monday, May 29 and Friday, June 2, 2017
In person drop off dates are Friday, June 2 and Saturday, June 3, 10am – 4pm
Opening Reception is Saturday, June 17, 2017
Pick up work Monday, August 7, 2017 or by appointment

Second Award of Excellence: from Blacksburg Regional Arts Association, $200

People's Choice: from The Artful Lawyer, Blacksburg, $100
More prizes may be awarded.

SHIPPING OF ARTWORK:
Entries should arrive at Floyd Center between the dates of Monday, May 29 and Friday, June 2, 2017.  Work arriving late or damaged or not following the required format may not be included in the exhibition.  Floyd Center will NOT pay for return shipping.  Artist must provide return labels to
