Calling all abstract artists! Where do you stand in the current atmosphere? What influences your work? Is your abstraction fueled by representation? CORE New Art Space’s newest open entry show focuses on you, the 21st century abstract painter. All abstract art is wanted.

Juror – Karen Roehl

Originally from Montreal, Canada, Karen Roehl began her art career in Denver as a graphic artist. After twenty successful years an independent designer, she decided to fulfill her ultimate goal to become a fine artist. Fully committing to her ambition, she re-entered university to study painting at CU Denver, graduating with a BFA and top honors in 2007.

Now known for her paintings inspired by abstract expressionism, Roehl has work in many private and national collections. In more recent explorations, Roehl combines realism with her abstract mark-making, primarily using the horse as her subject and inspiration.

Roehl has representation in Colorado and Texas. She regularly participates in solo, group, juried and invitational exhibitions. She has the great honor of being a repeated exhibiting artist in the prestigious Coors Western Art Exhibit since 2015 and was named Editor’s Choice for Artist to Watch in the February 2016 issue of Southwest Art magazine. Roehl is a faculty member of the Art Students League of Denver where she has taught painting since 2011.

Judging the work will rely on overall impact, content, composition and mastery of techniques. Attention to creativity and craftsmanship is a very important part of this as well. All media in any combination accepted, when entering please list all the media used. Consider weight and the fragility of your media if you are mailing your entry.

All work MUST arrive at CORE: JULY 9
Artist reception: JULY 14

REQUIREMENTS: Art must be completely dry. Wall and suspended art must have suitable means for hanging. NO SAWTOOTH HANGERS. Standing art must be stable. Set-up diagram must accompany multiple pieces and installation art. All art must remain in place for the duration of the show.

SIZE LIMITATION: Work must be within 60 inches on its largest side, and cannot weigh more than 80lbs including shipping crate.

SALES: CORE charges a 30% commission plus tax on art sold. CORE will collect the payment for the artist: however, the artist is responsible for terms of any sale. Your payment less the 30% commission will be rebated to your address within 45 days of the close of the show. Art need not be for sale.

LIABILITY: CORE will take all due precautions to protect premises and art. However, CORE is not responsible for loss due to damage, theft, vandalism, or accident. If work is fragile, it is submitted at the artist's own risk. Artist is responsible for his/her own insurance

SHIPPING/DROP-OFF: Artists are responsible for safely shipping their art, which must be received by July 9, 2017. COMPLETE SHIPPING DETAILS WILL BE EMAILED TO ACCEPTED APPLICANTS.

RETURN SHIPPING/PICK-UP: Any artwork delivered in person or shipped without reusable packaging material or without prepaid shipping label must be retrieved by the artist at the end of the exhibition unless sold. Drop-off art must be picked up by 5pm July 30, 2017. After 30 days, art will be considered abandoned. Abandoned artwork will be considered property of the gallery and may be sold to cover storage fees. Please ensure that we have good contact information for you so that we can avoid this situation.
