BLUETS: To fall under a spell

We invite entries in any medium for BLUETS at GearBox Gallery in Oakland, CA. Submit work exploring this theme inspired by the writer Maggie Nelson, who has written that to love the color blue was to fall “under a spell, a spell I fought to stay under and get out from under, in turns.” Blue is commonly associated with harmony, faithfulness, confidence, distance, infinity, the imagination, cold, and sometimes with sadness. References to the color include blue chip, blue collar, the wild blue yonder, having the blues, singing the blues, out of the blue, once in a blue moon. The color blue has been said to physically calm and sedate, cool, and aid intuition. “There is no blue without yellow and without orange” — Vincent Van Gogh.

Juror:  Jack Fischer
