The University of Southern Mississippi Museum of Art is pleased to announce the 2017 National Juried Painting Exhibition.  Artists are invited to submit entries of original works created since May of 2013.

JUROR:  Peter Van Dyck
Peter Van Dyck studied painting and drawing at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy from 1998-2002.  He also taught in the program from 2000-2002.  He returned to Philadelphia in 2002 to paint in his studio and began exhibiting his work in numerous group shows in Philadelphia, New York, and San Francisco.  He has had solo shows at John Pence Gallery, San Francisco, Eleanor Ettinger Gallery, New York, and The Grenning Gallery, Sag Harbor.  In 2003, Van Dyck began teaching at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where, in 2011, he became an assistant professor in the Certificate/BFA program.  In 2012, he was named one of 25 Important Artists of Tomorrow by American Artist Magazine.  In 2013 his work was included in the book Painted Landscapes, Contemporary Views by Lauren P. della Monica.  His work has also been reproduced in numerous periodicals including, American Artist Magazine, American Arts Quarterly, Art News, American Art Collector, International Artist Magazine, and Art and Antiques.

ELIGIBILITY:  This national juried exhibition is open to all US residents,18 years of age or older. Entries must have been completed within the last 4 years. Works in any painting medium (oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, etc.), and all forms of representational and non-representational painting are eligible. 

SPECIFICATIONS:  Entries must not exceed 72x72 inches and should weigh no more than 30 lbs. Entries must be the original work and available for the duration of the exhibit. Accepted works cannot be substituted. No Giclée prints or reproductions will be accepted. Works must be in good condition. Paintings should be professionally presented, framed or gallery wrapped with clean finished edges. Accepted works must be wired and ready for hanging. Wires must be in good condition and substantial enough to hold the weight of the work. No saw-tooth hangers or breakable glass allowed. Works not gallery-ready, differing significantly from the entry images, or lacking in presentation or craftsmanship may be omitted from the show.

SHIPPING AND DELIVERY: Artists are responsible for all shipping and delivery costs.  A prepaid return shipping label must be included for all works not hand-delivered by the artist. Works should be shipped to arrive only during the “Receipt of Works” window, from August 14–18, unless otherwise arranged.  Works should arrive no later than August 18, 2017.  Detailed shipping address and instructions will be sent to all participating artists.  

INSURANCE:  The University of Southern Mississippi will provide insurance coverage for all artworks while on the USM campus and gallery premises.  Insurance for artworks while in transit to and from USM is the responsibility of the artist. USM is not liable for any damage or loss occurring during transit.

SALES:  Works can be available for purchase or listed as NFS (Not for Sale).  Commission will not be taken on any sales.

ABOUT:  The University of Southern Mississippi Museum of Art was established in 1997 by the Mississippi Institute of Higher Learning Board of Trustees as an expansion of the C.W. Woods Gallery founded in 1977. Recently completed in 2014, the Gallery of Art and Design, a 2000 sq. ft. contemporary art gallery located on campus in the historic George Hurst Building, is now the primary exhibition space for all USM Museum of Art and Department of Art and Design exhibitions and events.
