THEME
From the mid through late 20th Century, the term "Americana" was largely associated with nostalgia for an idealized life in small towns and cities across the United States. Specifically for a time around the turn of the century, when American life and culture seemed congruent with the country's understanding of itself and its ideals. The spirit of this time is often reflected in idealistic and sentimentalized portrayals of everyday life, with subject matter ranging from the local soda fountain, to heroic images of the American flag, apple pies and baseball. Clearly, the way we define "Americana" has vastly changed over the past 100 years.

The Colorado Photographic Arts Center invites photographers to submit work for a juried show, that addresses what "Americana" looks like today. What does it mean to you? Does it evoke a certain place? Or is it represented by a specific symbol, a monument, or a piece of American history? Perhaps you think of a particular person or a group of people? It could even be a political ideology, an attitude, or even a state of mind. In this call for entry, the possibilities are endless. We are looking for images that reflect your personal understanding of the contemporary American experience, and a broad definition of Americana.
