Palate to Palette: Art and Appetite,is an art exhibition exploring themes of food, cooking, and eating through painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic design, ceramics, collage, industrial design, video, textiles, clay, and other media. The exhibition will run from January 13, 2018 through March 3, 2018. Awards: $500 award for best representational piece, and $500 for best functional piece.
2D, reflief, 3D, time based works, functional objects and furniture are all admissible. The themes may be very broadly defined. Food, kitchen appliances, communal tables, dishes and dishwashing, breakfast still-lifes, potable water, food and wine labels, crockery, restaurants, soup kitchens, food scarcity and food waste, cooking videos, and serving platters are just a few of many relevant subjects for this exhibition. Images of accepted works will be considered for a full-color print cookbook that will accompany the exhibition. The final week of the exhibition coincides with Traverse City Restaurant week. There will be a schedule of related programming and events connected to this exhibition. The Call is open to residents of Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ontario, and to all Crooked Tree Arts Center members, regardless of residency, 18 years and older. "Palate to Palette: Art and Appetite" is open to residents of Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ontario, and to members of the Crooked Tree Arts Center, regardless of residency. Members of the Crooked Tree Arts Center receive a 50% discount on the application fee. (use the coupon code PPAA18. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
Entry Procedure
Entry is through CaFE. Artists can either go directly to café (www.callforentry.org), or go to www.crookedtree.org between July 1 and October 24, 2017. If you go through the Crooked Tree Arts Center website, go to the “Artists” tab and drop down to “Calls for Artists”, and click on “Palate to Palette: Art and Appetite." You will be redirected to the “CaFÉ”. (CallForEntry.Org) platform. You must create a username and password to use this system. Once you have an account with “CaFÉ”, you can upload your images for this and other calls.

Digital images must be per standard CaFÉ specifications:
Image file format: JPEG only
File dimensions: No smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side

File size: 5 MB maximum

Please make sure that your email address is accurate. You will receive an email notification regarding your acceptance no later than October 30, 2017.
Accepted work must be delivered to Crooked Tree Arts Center, Traverse City, on January 4, 5, 6, 8, or 9, 2018, during posted gallery hours. Arrangements may also be made to deliver work to CTAC Petoskey, in advance of the January 9, 2018 deadline.
Artists must complete the entry form including medium or description of process, title, size and sales price of the work.*
All accepted artwork must be for sale. Make sure that your titles and prices are accurate. CTAC uses this information to create labels in advance of the show and will not recreate labels or make price modifications. The artist receives 60% and the CTAC receives 40% of the retail price of works sold. You may not alter the price of work after submitting your application. (Keep in mind your framing and shipping costs, and our commission, and work these into your price.)
You may not enter work for another artist.
Each artist may submit maximum of five images and one video.
Works must not have been previously exhibited at Crooked Tree Arts Center.
Works must be properly framed, wired and or otherwise ready for installation.
CTAC reserves the right to remove any accepted pieces of art from the exhibition.
Works may note pose a physical threat to visitors or staff.
Works must be physically stable. They must not deteriorate or rot during the run of the exhibition.
CTAC reserves the right to exclude any accepted pieces of art that were misrepresented in the digital submission.
A non-refundable fee of $35.00 per artist is required for entry (CTAC members $20.00). Accepted work may NOT be removed until after the close of the exhibition, on Saturday, March 3, 2018. The first day for pick up, from the Traverse City location is Monday, March 5, 2018.
Artwork Delivery and Pick-Up
Shipped Work: Artists are responsible for the delivery and pick-up of their work. Shipped work must be adequately packed for shipping. Any work to be shipped back to the artist must include re-usable packaging and a pre-paid shipping label. There is a handling cost of $25 per artist for shipped work. If the work is hand delivered and picked up at the end of the show this fee does not apply. Make checks payable to: Crooked Tree Arts Center.
Work must be delivered to CTAC Traverse City on January 4, 5, 6, 8, or 9, 2018, during posted gallery hours. Work can also be delivered to Petoskey, in advance of the January 9 deadline, by arrangement.
Please attach a legible identification label to each piece, clearly labeled with artist contact information, title, media/process and price.
Work may NOT be removed until after the close of the show in Traverse City on Saturday, March 3, 2018.
The work must be picked up on March 5-9, 2018. Shipped work will be sent between March 5-9, 2018.
Work not picked up by March 11, 2018, and for which no prior arrangements with CTAC staff have been made, becomes property of the Crooked Tree Arts Center. The artist forfeits any claim to the work and the Crooked Tree Arts Center cannot be held responsible for any method of disposal arising from forfeiture.
Commission
The retail price of the work may not be changed after submitting the works to CaFE.
*Crooked Tree Arts Center will retain a 40% commission on any work sold from the exhibition. The artist will receive 60% of the sales price. Keep this in mind when setting your prices.
Purchased work may not be removed from the gallery before the close of the exhibition on March 3, 2018.
Payment for sales will be made by the 10th of the month following the month of the sale.
Liability
All reasonable care will be taken with artwork. However, CTAC or volunteers will not be responsible for loss or damage to artwork. CTAC suggests that participants carry separate insurance.
Reproduction
Permission is granted to CTAC for reproduction of artwork for catalog and/or advertising purposes. Entry into exhibition constitutes agreement with this understanding.
