​Crooked Tree Arts Center, in Petoskey, presents the 2018 Juried Photography Exhibition. This year’s juror is the accomplished photographer and founder of the annual Photostock Festival, and the North Light Press, Bill Scwab. The call is open to all residents of Michigan, Ohio, Ontario, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, and Crooked Tree Arts Center Members, regardless of residency.  There will be four  prizes awarded: 1st PLACE: $500,  2ND PLACE: $250, 3rd PLACE: $100. There will also be an additional ALTERNATIVE PROCESSES AWARD: $250 for a work involving an alternative process such as platinum palladium, cyanotype, gum bichromate, or salt prints.

 

Applicant Calendar:

  • Online entries are accepted: July 17, 2017– November 18, 2017

  • Notification will be sent between: November 29, and December 3, 2017

  • Work must be delivered to Crooked Tree Arts Center between January 9 - 13, 2018 during posted CTAC gallery hours. CTAC  is closed on Sundays.

  • The Juried Photography Exhibition Opening Reception is Saturday, January 20, 2018, from 2-4 p.m.

  • The Juried Photography Exhibition closes on: Saturday, March 24, 2018

  • Work must be picked up between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Monday, March 26- Saturday, April 1, 2018.

  • Works delivered with return shipping arrangements will be sent between March 26-29, 2018.

 

Eligibility

The 2018  Juried Photography Exhibition is open to all Michigan, Ohio, Ontario, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin residents, and all members of the Crooked Tree Arts Center, regardless of residency, 18 years and older.  

 

File Size and Format:

  • Digital images must be per standard CaFÉ specifications:

  • File format: JPEG only

  • File dimensions: No smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side

  • File resolution: 72 ppi/dpi (standard web resolution)

  • File size: 5 MB maximum

 

Juror: Bill Schwab
 

Bill Schwab’s career as a photographer and publisher now spans over 3 decades with work in many private, corporate and museum collections around the world. He has been a pioneer in the area of online representation and branding of his photographic art having successfully managed a worldwide collector base for many years as well as consulted with other artists and galleries on the subject. In addition to his work as a photographer, through his North Light Photographic Workshops, he facilitates classes in several photographic process a year at his northern Michigan facility as well as leads expeditions of photographers to Iceland, the Faroe Islands and more. Bill is also founder and host of the "Photostock Festival", an annual gathering of photographers, collectors and enthusiasts for workshops, reviews, presentations and demos. 
 
In 2005 he founded North Light Press with the intention of independently supporting and publishing the work of emerging as well as established photographers and has published several successful titles to date. Recently launched under his North Light Press label is a new series titled the “11+1 Signature Series”, a series of small run, limited edition books that contain 11 reproductions and 1 original print. Each case bound book is signed and numbered by the photographer in an edition of only 100. There are now 10 books in this series that is continually growing and includes titles from past Critical Mass, Top 50 photographers, S. Gayle Stevens, Clay Lipsky and Anne Berry among others.

Eligibility and Requirements:

  • The call is open to all residents of Michigan, Ohio, Ontario, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, and Crooked Tree Arts Center Members, regardless of residency.  Information on becoming a member of CTAC.

  • Submissions  must rely on photographic processes. (All photographic techniques and processes are admissible.)

  • Submissions must be created by the artist submitting the work.

  • Photographers  may submit up to two entries.

  • Works must not have been previously exhibited at Crooked Tree Arts Center.

  • Accepted works must be prepared for installation.

  • Accepted works must be labeled on the back with the artist’s name and the title(s) of the photograph(s).

  • All accepted works must be for sale. The sale price = 60% to the artist+ 40% to the gallery. Keep your framing and printing costs in mind. Prices may not be changed after submission. 

  • A non-refundable fee of $40.00 per artist is required for entry (CTAC members $20.00). Submission Procedure:

  • Submit up to two photographs.

  • The initial jury will be done online. All photographic techniques are welcome. However, submissions must be made in a particular digital format, according to CaFÉ specifications:

    • File format: JPEG only

    • File dimensions: No smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side

    • File resolution: 72 ppi/dpi (standard web resolution)

    • File size: 5 MB maximum

  • Complete the entry form including medium/process, title, size and retail price of the work.

  • If the work is created with alternative processes, also include a description of your process

  • Works must be clearly labelled with the artist's name, the title, and photographic medium. ​

  • Please make sure that your email address in the application form is accurate. You will receive an email about the status of your submissions between November 29, and December 3, 2017.

Delivery and Pick up

  • Work must be delivered to Crooked Tree Arts Center between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m, January 6 and  January 11, 2018, with the exception of Sunday, January 8. CTAC is closed on Sundays.  

  • Unsold work must be picked up between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Monday, March 27- Saturday, April 1, 2018.  If this timeframe poses a problem, please contact Sheila Ruen, the Galleries Director, to discuss possible alternate arrangements at sheila@crookedtree.org.

  • Accepted work may NOT be removed until after the close of the show on March 25, 2017.

  • Work not picked up by April 15, 2018, becomes property of the Crooked Tree Arts Center unless prior arrangement has been made with Sheila Ruen, Galleries Director. The photographer forfeits any claim to the work and the Crooked Tree Arts Center cannot be held responsible for any method of disposal arising from forfeiture.
