The Ann Arbor Art Center invites ceramic artists to submit their work to Hot Fresh Glazed, an exhibition of functional pottery. More than just a cup show, all functional designs are welcome! Submissions will be juried in two categories:  individual object (cup, mug, plate, bowl, etc.) or place-setting. Artists may submit up to three images per $35 fee. The images may represent any combination of objects and sets. Images representing a full place-setting should show all pieces of the set in a single image. Any images of single pieces will be considered individual objects.

Best in Show: $500, with two other “Best of” awards: $150 each

This is a “cash-and-carry” exhibition. Accepted artists may have the option to include multiples at the time of delivery in order for objects in the exhibit to be replaced as they sell.

The Ann Arbor Art Center is located in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor, MI and welcomes thousands of holiday shoppers each season. This "cash-and-carry" exhibition was designed with both art collectors and holiday shoppers in mind.

ABOUT THE JUROR

Nawal Motawi founded Motawi Tileworks more than 20 years ago. A University of Michigan art school graduate with a restless spirit and an interest in applied arts, Nawal moved to Detroit to learn tilemaking at Detroit’s storied Pewabic Pottery. She returned to Ann Arbor after a few years and began making her own tiles in a garage studio and selling them from a stand she rented at the local farmers’ market.

Motawi tiles are sold internationally in over 300 shops and galleries. Motawi murals and tile installations are in countless homes and public places, with large installations at such institutions as the University of Michigan, Yale University and Disneyland.

Today, Nawal is still designing and making tiles in Ann Arbor. Her companies, Motawi Tileworks and Rovin Ceramics, employ more than 30 people. Her company utilizes Toyota-Style Production and practices an intentional workplace culture.

Recently, Motawi tiles have been featured in Forbes, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Dwell Magazine, and on the national PBS series Craft in America.
