Open Studios and Rembrandt Yard invite Boulder County artists to submit work to be displayed in one of our two galleries.  Work will typically hang for a 3-month time period. Each exhibit will include a gallery reception event, hosted by Open Studios and to be scheduled within the scheduling confines of Rembrandt Yard Event Center. Receptions will be scheduled on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings and no more than 2 months in advance. Staff of Open Studios will hang and label the exhibits. Guidelines for drop off an pick up of artwork will be supplied at the time your show is confirmed.

Rembrandt Yard Art Gallery & Event Center is a venue that hosts events, both public and private. Our gallery space is a popular spot to reserve for wedding receptions, holiday parties and corporate events. Over 6,500 square feet of gallery space on two floors features original art created by Boulder County artists. Boulder County art nonprofit Open Studios manages the art installed in Rembrandt Yard. Local artists are encouraged to apply for this opportunity to display work in a unique gallery space that hosts several hundred events each year, bringing guests from all over the country as well as tourists and visitors who stop in to the gallery when it is open to the public.

Artists are asked to submit their work for review. All works must be suitable to be hung in a public event venue space. Work that includes nudes, work that is highly controversial and work that is too “dark” will not be considered. This gallery is an event venue and the management of the space requests that art be appropriate for the types of events that take place here, i.e. weddings, corporate vents, bar/bat mitzvahs, etc. We will only consider applicants whose work is able to be exhibited on a wall (typically, 2D media). Wall-hung 3-dimensional media will be reviewed on a case by case, and space available basis.

Exhibit applications must be submitted online via CaFE, which includes an upload of an artists statement and 12-20 individual pieces of art to be considered for the exhibit. If you have questions about the application process, please contact us at info@openstudios.org.

A panel of Open Studios and Rembrandt Yard staff review proposals and make recommendations on accepting exhibition proposals. Applications are due by Nov 1, 2017, and selected exhibitors will be notified by December 15, 2017.

How to submit:
Submit artwork and information via CaFE.  You will be asked to submit the following:

  • 12-20 images that will be included in your exhibit
  • Artist’s statement (focus on the work submitted)

All art must be display ready, including framing, matting & hanging.  Please ensure that your work is:

  • Framed
  • Assembled
  • All artwork must have hanging wire, so that it may be compatible with the gallery’s hanging system (no sawtooth hangers, please)
  • Please provide an artist’s statement either framed and able to be hung, or in a clear acrylic stand
  • Suitable for public display

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PARTIES

Artwork. Artists are responsible to deliver their art on the installation date and time. Open Studios staff will install all work in the gallery space.

Labels. The artist is required to provide label information at least 3 months before exhibit, so that Open Studios may create labels to be posted upon installation.

Sales. Open Studios will facilitate and execute any sales that occur during the exhibit period. Commission terms: Artist receives 60% and Rembrandt Yard gets 40% of any sales that occur during the exhibit period. If any work is sold, however, it must remain in place until the end of the show. In very rare cases, an appropriate work may be hung in its place if the buyer must take the piece before the exhibit period. After the physical exhibit, work will be displayed and available for sale via the Open Studios website for up to 2 years. It is the artists responsibility to let Open Studios know if/when a piece sells outside of the website so we may remove it from our website.

Insurance. Artists are responsible for insuring their art.  Open Studios and Rembrandt Yard do not insure art nor are they liable for any theft or damage. Open Studios and Rembrandt Yard are not responsible for artworks or materials left after the agreed-upon time.

Value of objects loaned.  The value of the object(s) loaned under this agreement needs to be established by the Lender.  The Lender declares this value in good faith and, upon request, can provide evidence to support this assertion.

Publicity and Photography. Unless Open Studios is notified in writing to the contrary at the time the object(s) is/are loaned, it is understood that the object(s) on loan may be photographed and reproduced exclusively for publicity purposes connected with the exhibition, for exhibition documentation, event venue promotion and for educational purposes. It will also be included in photography that occurs during events held in the space.

Return of loans. Upon expiration of the loan, the object(s) will be released to the lender.  The lender agrees to pick up the artwork at the end of the exhibition. Unclaimed art becomes the property of Open Studios.

Additional information will be provided upon selection for display.
