39th Annual Whitewater Valley Art Competition
Call for Entries

 Originating in 1978, the Whitewater Competition has a history of “open judging”, allowing the public to be “on site” when the exhibit entries are excluded or included for the exhibit.  In this spirit, digital images of entered works will be projected in an auditorium on the campus of IU East and be juried by a three-judge panel.  Intervals in the judging will be scheduled for the public to interact with the panel with regard to rationale related to selection or rejection of works. At the end of that day, September 29, 50 – 55 works will have been selected to show. All art submissions will be juried electronically.

 Awards:  $5,000 total award money

 Eligibility

Artists must be 18 years or older and reside in Indiana or adjacent states of Ohio, Kentucky, or Michigan. All work must be original by the submitting artist.

 Limit 3 entries.

 Limit three images per entry.

 Submission process via www.callforentry.org.

 Categories include drawing, painting, mixed media, photography, computer graphics, although works are not judged by category.

 All works must be electronically submitted. No hand-delivered submissions. Artists needing assistance with photographing work for submission may do so by bringing the work to the Tom Thomas Gallery, Whitewater Hall in IU East Campus, September 20 – 22, 10am – 4pm. Entries will be photographed and emailed to the artist that day. It is then up to the artist to complete the electronic submission process online.

 Conditions and Rules

2d works must include wire or hanging device. 3d works must be stable. No wet entries nor AC electric.  Weight limit is 30 lbs. and size must not exceed 48” in any direction.

 Works on paper must be protected under Plexiglas or similar. No traditional glass allowed on any 2d works larger than 12” in any direction.

  If artwork is available for purchase, the amount must be included in the submission. NFS pieces must include an insurance amount which is considered reasonable and in correlation with past sales and/or professional appraisals.

  By submitting work to be considered, artists grant permission to the IU East Art Gallery to reproduce accepted artwork for promotional uses in both printed and electronic forms.

 All works must be shipped in reusable containers with a return-shipping label via UPS or FEDEX (No USPS). Artists are responsible for all shipping costs. Artists hand-delivering works must do so by 5pm, October 13, 2017.

 The gallery reserves the right to not display works if they are not presented in the format specified or if the physical work vastly differs from the submitted image.

 Schedule

September 20 – 22, 10am – 4pm:  Assistance offered to artists to photograph work(s) for entry in the Tom Thomas Gallery, Whitewater Hall in IU East,  2325 Chester Blvd., Richmond, Indiana.

 September 22, 5pm: Deadline to submit artwork

September 25:  Submission fees, payable to Indiana University East, must be received in the form of personal check, cashier’s check, or money order, no cash, to the following:

You MAY also pay via credit card by calling our campus Bursar’s Office at (765) 973-8345 Monday through Friday between 9am – 11am and 1pm – 4pm, and mention “Whitewater Valley Art Competition”. Please note that Indiana University charges a 3.25% processing fee for credit card transactions.

 September 29, 10am – noon, 1 – 3pm:  Artwork judged by jurors in Vivian Auditorium, Whitewater Hall, IU East.

 October 13: Deadline for accepted entries to be received at IU East (shipped or physically brought).

 October 20, 5:30pm: Donor reception and awards presentation.

 October 20 – December 8: Whitewater Valley Art Exhibit in Tom Thomas Gallery and Meijer Artway.

 December 11 – 15, 10am – 5pm: Exhibit artwork collected by artist.

 Liability

The utmost care will be taken in handling artwork(s) during the exhibition, and the works will be insured for the duration of the exhibition, from delivery to shipping back to artist. However, should an occasion arise in which an insurance claim must be made, any claim above $300 will require records of past sales and / or a third party professional appraisal. IU East is not liable for any damages to works incurred during shipping.
