The exhibition highlights a broad range of attitudes in the clay medium from functional to sculptural work. The Museum devotes its entire space to the show. In the last competition 115 works were displayed.

The competition is open to all artists 18 or older who are residents of the United States, Canada, or Mexico. All work, both functional and sculptural, must have been completed within the last two years. Works previously accepted into this competition are ineligible.

Insurance
The Museum will take the greatest care in handling all work. The work will be insured while at the Museum. Work not for sale should have a stated value. The artist is responsible for insuring the works in transit.

Sales
Sales will be encouraged and there will be a 20% commission. In 2016 more than 25% of the work exhibited was sold. Furthermore, the Museum typically purchases several works from the exhibition to add to its permanent collection. Ceramics from SAMFA’s permanent collection have been loaned to many other museums.

Shipping
Accepted work may be hand delivered or shipped prepaid to arrive no later than March 25, 2018. Artists are also responsible for return shipping costs. Shipping instructions will be sent to all participants.

Exhibition Catalog
A complimentary catalog, that includes a photograph of each exhibited work, will be sent to all accepted artists after the close of the show.

Rules
1. All works must remain for the duration of the competition, April 20 - June 24, 2018. If an accepted work is sold prior to the show, it must be sold on the understanding that it will be available for exhibit. If this is not possible, don’t submit it.

2. Submitted photographs of artwork may be reproduced for educational and publicity purposes by SAMFA, and published on our website and social media. By entering the contest, each artist agrees to these terms of use. If the provided photo is taken by someone other than the artist, photo credit and copyright information must be included. The museum also reserves the right to photograph works for publicity purposes.

3. Payment of the entry fee signifies the artist’s  understanding and acceptance of the rules and conditions of the competition.

There will be a panel discussion concerning contemporary ceramics held at Angelo State University on April 19th at 1:30 p.m. The panel will include the Museum Director, the Invited Artist and the Juror. The Invited Artist, Randy Brodnax, will lead a workshop at The Old Chicken Farm Art Center on Saturday, April 20th. Numerous other events of interest to artists will occur April 19-23.
