Juror
Jennifer Dasal is the Associate Curator of Contempory Art at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, NC, where she has been employed since 2008. Her research expertise includes contemporary art with a particular interest in women artists and Asian Art. Prior to joining the NCMA, she held positions at the Snite Museum at the University of Notre Dame, and at the Nelson Art Gallery at the University of California, Davis. On the side, Jennifer hosts the ARTCurious Podcast, a biweekly show exposing the unexpected, the slightly odd, and the strangely wonderful in art history.
Awards
The Juror will present three $1,000 Juror's Choice awards, and a Grand Prize of
$3,000. Art will not be separated into categories for judging.
Purchases
All art must be available for purchase.
RFAS receives a commission of 30%.
Sale prices are firm.
Eligibility: North Carolina Residents
North Carolina residents ages 18 and over are eligible to submit two original works
created after January 1, 2017. Art works selected for previous RFAS
exhibitions are ineligible. All works must be the sole work and exclusive property
of the artists.
Professional Artists Exhibition Catalogue
Raleigh Fine Arts will publish a professional Catalogue for Artists Exhibition
2018. Copies of this catalogue will be distributed at the Artists Exhibition Opening
on March 4, 2018, and at tours of the Exhibition, which will be conducted in
March of 2018.
The Artists Exhibition Catalogue will feature a full page for each artist
selected for the Exhibition.
• Each artist’s page will include a 1/3 page photograph of the selected artwork,
along with the artist’s name and the title, dimensions, media and cost of the
artwork.
• Each artist’s page will also provide space below the photograph of the artwork
for the artist to provide information about the artist’s credentials and work.
• This information may not exceed 200 words and may include (a) an artist’s
statement and (b) a biographical statement.
• The artist’s statement may provide information about the artwork submitted
or about the artist’s work in general.
• The biographical statement may provide information about the artist’s
professional background, such as: (a) where the artist is from, (b) whether the
artist has any higher education degrees in art, (c) what the artist does for a
living if the artist’s occupation or profession is related to art, (d) other art
training the artist has had, (e) any awards or honors the artist has received,
including juried shows the artist was selected for.
• An artist may list up to two North Carolina galleries that represent the artist.
Because of the time needed to prepare this catalogue for publication, the
artist’s biographical information and artist’s statements should be submitted
when the artist submits his or her entry on Café or no later than the final date
for submitting entries to the Exhibition, January 7, 2018. No changes will be allowed.
Specification for Submitted Art Work
The maximum dimension of a single work, sculpture included, is 72 inches
(including frame), and it should weigh no more than 200 pounds. Image size and
frame size must be specified.
Deadline
Entries may be submitted beginning October 3, 2017. Entries must be finalized
and payment received by 6:00 p.m. January 7, 2018. Entry fees are nonrefundable.
Delivery of Accepted Works
• Selected works must be delivered in excellent condition and ready to install
or RFAS will refuse art at delivery.
• Two-dimensional work must be properly framed, wired and ready to hang.
Paintings that are canvas wrapped may be submitted without frames if the
sides of the canvas are neat and painted.
• Three-dimensional sculpture work must have display stands and/or pedestals
suitable for exhibition.
• Submitted works must be the original work of the artist. Giclee prints of
reproduced art works are not acceptable. Digital photography is acceptable,
and the digital print method may be used to produce original photographic
images.
• An artist must include a card or label with his/her name, address, email and
phone number in a discreet place behind or under each piece of art and on any
pedestals or other display equipment. The card or label must be securely
affixed to the artwork and other display equipment. Please note: The name
an artist puts on this card or label will be the name used in the catalogue and
on the label beside the artwork in the Betty Ray McCain Gallery.
Hand delivery: Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, 2 East South St.,
Raleigh, NC 27601. Enter the gallery from the Kennedy Theatre entrance off
Salisbury Street. Dates of delivery are Monday, February 26, 2018, 3:30 p.m. until
8:30 p.m., and Thursday, March 1, 2018, 1:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Shipping: A prepaid return label must be enclosed. Ship via UPS or FedEx to:
Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, 2 East South St., Raleigh, NC 27601.
The City of Raleigh is not responsible for damage during shipment. The
Performing Arts Center staff will inspect shipped art upon receipt.
Pick-up of Unsold Exhibited Work
Accepted entries may not be removed during the Exhibition. Artists must pick up
unsold work on Monday, April 23 between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Shipped
artwork will be returned to the artist in the original packing materials after April 23
if accompanied by a prepaid return label.
Procedures
• RFAS uses the CaFÉ™ program for online submissions and artwork must be
submitted online through it. The RFAS Artists Exhibition website links to
CaFÉ™. This program is user-friendly and offers tutorials.
• If an artist is unable to submit an entry online, or if the artist has any questions or
technical problems with the CaFÉ™ program, the artist should contact the
CaFÉ™ support staff at cafe@westaf.org.
• If an artist has other questions, including questions about the artist’s statements
and biographical information for the new Artists Exhibition Catalogue, the artist
should contact artistsexhibition@gmail.com.
• An artist must provide the name of the medium used. An artist who submits
mixed-media work must include the names of all media used in the creation of the
artwork.
• An artist may submit two artworks. For each two dimensional artwork, and artist
may upload one image of the artwork. For each three dimensional artwork, the
artist may upload up to three images of the artwork. Each image should be of a
different view of the artwork. The Raleigh Fine Arts Society reserves the right to
edit submitted entries to meet these requirements.
• File sizes of the photo images of submitted art cannot exceed 5MB. Minimum
image size is 1920 pixels on the longest side. Resolution must be 72 dpi. Please
note: An artist whose artwork is selected for the Exhibition will be asked to
provide higher resolution photo images for the new catalogue.
• Images must be oriented correctly. They should not include the framing or empty
space but should be cropped to show only the image of the artwork.
• All entries will be juried from digital images. Awards will be selected from the
original works of art.
• The venue reserves the right to eliminate from the exhibition any work deemed
inappropriate in content or form.
Entry Fee
The entry fee is $35.00. Payment will be accepted online using PayPal.
Liability
The City of Raleigh is not responsible for loss, theft or damage during transport by
Lender/Artist. The city will take all reasonable care of loaned works while art is in
its custody. Artists, if they wish, must make their own insurance arrangements to
cover the first $2,500 in value for any art on loan to the City. Insurance coverage
of value lost over $2,500 may be available in some circumstances.
