Studio Channel Islands is a non-profit Art Gallery and Artists Studio. During this exhibition Studio Channel Islands will host its annual 'Holiday Art Market' which attracts over 1,000 people in a single day. The Holiday Art Market is a major selling event with tens of thousands of dollars of work being sold in just a few short hours.
Artist whose work is accepted are welcome to attend the Holiday Market on December 2nd. Any succesful artist who wishes to hold a special reception or sales event during the period of the exhibition are welcome to contact the office to discuss the practicalities.
Artist’s Responsibilities
a. Provide SCI with the following:
i. A current artist biography, resume and statement, submitted electronically
ii. Information and images for press release; high resolution (300 dpi) digital images
iii. List of works for the exhibition, including tittle, size, medium, and price
iv. Installation requirements or specifications, if any
v. Current W9 form (SCI will provide this document for the artist to fill out)
b. Works will be delivered to the gallery by the artist on the determined date. Works need to be suitably ready for hanging, including wires where necessary. The artist is responsible for packaging, shipping, delivering, removing, pick-up and returning. Please review our installation policy (form IP).
c. Artist Works need to be removed at the last day of the exhibition by the artist or on the stated pick up day below. Artist is responsible for removing the work on time. SCI has no storage, and delays for removing the work may result in additional cost for the artist.
d. Artist to supply price list for all works, prior to the delivery date specified above, to allow time for SCI to inform insurance underwriters. All works will be insured by SCI for the duration of the exhibition. This does not include travel to and from the gallery.
3. Exhibition
a. Artist allows the work in the exhibition to be photographed for purposes of reports, documentation and publicity. The artist grants SCI the right to use or publish images of their work in print, online and on social media sites for promotional purposes.
b. Retail prices for each artwork will be established by the artist. The artist is to include gallery commission in the price listed.
c. The following commission/payment terms will apply to each subject artwork sold by The Blackboard Gallery, SCI: 60% (payment to artist), 40% (commission to SCI). Artwork must remain in the gallery until the end of the exhibition.
d. ARTIST retains ownership of all artwork represented by The Blackboard Gallery, SCI until such artwork is sold pursuant to the terms of this Agreement or otherwise. The artist retains copyright to all consigned artwork in perpetuity, as governed by law.
e. In order to offer exhibitions at no cost to artist and public, SCI is renting the Blackboard Gallery occasionally to third parties (renter). Usage is restricted to events that are suitable for an art gallery. Precautions are taken to keep the art work if necessary. The renter is responsible for any and all damages caused by his/her agents, vendors, guests or contractors.
f. The artist can cancel the exhibition up to 6 months before the date of exhibition. If an artist’s needs to reschedule an exhibition, it will depend on SCI’s exhibit schedule to find a new time slot. If no agreeable time slot can be found, the exhibition will be cancelled. SCI reserves the right to cancel any exhibition for any reason.
4. SCI Responsibilities
a. SCI will promote the exhibition through regular membership emails, press releases, social media and on occasion postcards. SCI will cover the cost for designing and possible printing of post cards.
b. Reception: SCI will host an opening reception with wine and simple snacks. Artist may contribute to a more elaborate reception.
5. By signing the contract artist agrees to abide by the rules of SCI; otherwise SCI will cancel the contract. This contract may be changed if both SCI and artist agree.

Gallery installation policy
General
• All placement and installation of art works to be done at the discretion of the professional installation team.
• All work must be delivered within the time frame given by gallery. No late deliveries will be accepted.
• Artist must indicate orientation of piece and include any special installation instructions. Installation team will take requests into consideration.
• All work must be delivered ready to hang with appropriate hardware. No saw-tooth hangers.
• All work must be delivered, unpacked and ready to hang by time and date stated in contract.
The installation team will do their best to accommodate artist’s requests based on other installation requirements.
The Gallery Director has the right to reject art work before installation.
