Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its President’s Commission on Women and Gender Equity. This commission has worked tirelessly for two decades to advance the climate for women and all genders at Colorado State and to advise the University on issues related to the status and success of women. The Commission continues to dedicate itself to this mission in the hopes of eventually working itself out of a job. Learn more at

We are seeking a completed work of art to commemorate this anniversary and the contributions of women to Colorado State University since its founding. Women at CSU are and have been scholars, researchers, educators, innovators, artists, athletes, front-line workers, outreach specialists, role models, groundbreakers, and leaders in the organization as well as in their disciplines.

Submissions must speak in creative ways to the theme of advancing women in higher education and celebrating their contributions at Colorado State University. The creative interpretation of that theme is up to each artist, and works in all media, techniques, and styles are encouraged.

Submissions may be in any medium, including but not limited to painting, ceramics, drawing, dance, textiles, metalwork, musical composition, poetry, prose, playwriting, and sculpture. The winning entry will become a permanent part of the Colorado State University collection.

February 9, 2018

Entry is digital, through the website. Incomplete entries will not be considered. Entries that do not respectfully and imaginatively honor the theme and spirit of this anniversary celebration will not be considered.

All artists 18 years or older residing in Colorado (or if not residing in Colorado must be professionally or academically affiliated with Colorado State University) may enter. All media, all techniques, and all styles are encouraged as long as they speak to the theme of advancing women in higher education and celebrating the contributions of women at Colorado State University.

$25 per entry. This entry fee will be waived for current CSU students who may obtain a coupon code at the CSU Office of the President by presenting a current student ID. (Fees for additional images above the maximum still apply.) No more than two entries per person will be considered.

Media Fee (per sample over minimum): $5

Refunds cannot be provided.

The winning entry will be announced in March 2018 during Women's History Month.

All 2D work must be framed or properly wired for hanging. No brackets, please. Art must not exceed 48” in width or length. Sculpture must be solid standing or securely mounted. Only work easily handled by no more than two people at a time will be accepted.

Artwork that differs from the submitted jpgs will be disqualified.

The winning piece must be physically delivered to Colorado State University within two weeks of the winner being notified and will become the property of the University at that time.

A total of $5,000 in prize money will be awarded; the judges may select both a first and a second prize winner and split the total award or award a single prize at their discretion. No more than two winning pieces will be selected.

Winners will be notified prior to the public announcement in March. The announcement and publicizing of the winning entry will be handled by Colorado State University.

The final selection will be made by the Office of the President,  the President’s Commission on Women and Gender Equity, and a pool of finalists selected by the University’s Lilla B. Morgan Arts and Culture Grants Committee, who will review all entries.
