City of Lafayette Public Art Committee is looking to select 20 sculptures for the 2018 Art on the Street.  Each artist may submit up to three (3) sculptures for review.  Each sculpture should be submitted in it's own application.
Artists who participate in the Lafayette, CO Art on the Street program tell us we are one of the best programs they've experienced and that Lafayette has refined its community engagement and ability to promote the AOTS program and it's participating artists.  We feature each sculpture on its own web page; brochures are printed in English and in Spanish, and we will link to your website for additional exposure to your body of work.  If your sculpture is selected our honorarium is $750 for a one year installation.  Two additional prizes also are awarded. The $1000 Jean Mellblom Award for Artistic Excellence, and the $250 People's Choice Award.  If you are traveling from more than 250 miles away we will provide you with an additional $100 lodging/travel stipend. As we enter our 10th year we have 20 Art on the Street sculpture locations to fill.

In addition to the Art on the Street Program Lafayette has over 20 permanent pieces, an Alley Art Amazin’ program with our 70 murals gracing our alleyways and neighborhoods, and several excellent gallery spaces.  Lafayette has built a great reputation as a fun arts destination and has won statewide recognition by winning the Governors Award for the Arts.  On average, 1-2 sculptures have been purchased from the AOTS program each year.
Installations are  scheduled to happen between April 2 and April 6, 2018.  Rain/snow installations dates will be April 9 - 13, 2018.  Under your supervision, and with your assistance, our public works crew will carefully and securely install your artwork to our steel pedestals or concrete pads with metal inserts. Our staff and crew will work with you to
choose the best orientation for public viewing. We have welding equipment, drills, lifts, and as many resources as needed for a quality installation.

While you are in town for the installation we will interview you about your work, your process and the philosophy that fuels your inspiration.  These videos will appear on our website, where each sculpture has its own page throughout the program year. This coming spring Lafayette is launching the Activate Lafayette!  a mobile app with all of the Art on the Street Locations included. You can see this year's AOTS collection and interviews at .

Once the artworks are installed and the videos are uploaded to our website, we take things further with our Art on the Street program: See & Respond! call for entries.  The See & Respond! program encourages people to come SEE our AOTS collection and to RESPOND! in poetry, 2-D art and photography.   This year we received over 50 responses to the AOTS sculptures.  The entries are displayed at our culminating event, the Art on the Street: See & Respond! Meet the Artists Reception held each year at the Lafayette Public Library in the fall!
