Open to artists with previous mural painting experience. Applicants shall provide evidence of past work.
COMPETITION STRUCTURE
The selected building, at 7 Waltham St, Maynard, known as the Murphy-Snyder building, has two separate walls available for murals. Dimensions for each wall are detailed below in the section of “Nature of Mural”. Applicants may submit any number of designs.
From the initial list of applicants, the Maynard Cultural Council will select several finalists to create detailed visualizations of their proposed mural. Those short-listed finalists will be compensated with $150.00 each to submit their detailed visual proposals.
A jury comprised of representatives of the community, Maynard Cultural Council and forward-thinking artists will select up to two murals from the finalist submissions.
NATURE OF MURAL
-Choice of two exterior painted brick walls at 7 Waltham St, Maynard, MA
-Dimensions
Mural 1 (Route 27) Length 71’ and Height 10’ 6” = 750 feet square
("feet square" has subtracted 4 windows)
Mural 2 (Route 62 parking lot) Length 71’ and Height 16’ = 1050 feet square
("feet square" has subtracted 4 windows)
-Special design includes windows that cannot be covered.

-Trees will be cut down to allow full use of mural wall (Route 27 side)
-Walls will have holes filled, vents removed, any opening sealed. They will be
pressure-washed and ready for priming.
WINNING PROPOSAL(S)
The winning proposal(s) will be awarded an agreed to all-inclusive fee per wall. The decision on the winning proposal(s) may be for one artist to create both murals or a separate artist for each mural.
COST ESTIMATE
Artist will submit estimate of budget for the artwork, design and installation. Cost estimate will be based on mural size and inclusive of artist’s expenses and fees. And, will not exceed $24,000 (total for two murals. Total to be split if there are two artist finalists).
TENTATIVE TIMELINE
-Stage 1 call for entries: NOVEMBER 21, 2017
-Entry deadline: FEBRUARY 4, 2018
-Announcement of short listed proposals: FEBRUARY 25, 2018
-Visualization deadline: MARCH 18, 2018
-Winning proposal announced: MAY 1, 2018
-Completed installation of mural: TBD, project to be completed at least by mid-Summer.
