Visual artists are an integral part of our cultural landscape, and provide an important source of creative capital for the Sacramento region. In this regard, donors Mark M. Glickman and Lanette M. McClure have under-written an award to directly support the creation of new work and study by emerging artists in California. Artists can work in any of the following media, including ceramics, painting, sculpture in any medium, glass, printmaking, fiber, drawing, mixed media, installation, photography or video.  

The qualifications for this award are that the artist’s submitted work is of high caliber, original, and completed within the past five years. Preference will be given to artists who are under-recognized or ‘emerging’ in the art field, thus while they may have exhibiting experience, their exhibit history will not be extensive. Artists must be dedicated to the practice of making and exhibiting art, and need financial support. The award is limited to artists residing in California, and will be determined by a panel of experts and donors.

The selected artist will receive an award of $2,500 and the offering of a solo exhibit, in the Pence’s Dowling Community Gallery. Awardees will be expected to create new work for the Pence exhibit, and to lead a workshop or talk based on their work. 

To apply: Create a profile on www.callforentry.org. This is free and does take some time.  Upload 10-15 jpgs or video files (5 MB maximum) of your work completed within the past five years). Images should be at least 300 dpi. Please include an artist’s resume or CV, and artist statement (no longer than 1000 words), and how this grant will help you financially. Please label each image with your last name and the title of the piece. All applications must be made via www.callforentry.org by 5 PM PST on Feb. 2, 2018. The application fee is $25 ($20 Pence members) via the same website.
