SOHN FINE ART GALLERY IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING PHOTOGRAPHY SUBMISSIONS
FOR THE 7TH ANNUAL JURIED EXHIBITION
 

This is an open call for art for Sohn Fine Art Gallery's 7th Annual Juried Exhibition. The Gallery is located in the heart of the Berkshires in Lenox, MA. The Exhibition will feature a curated selection of 4 photographs by 5 artists, with a total of 20 photographs in the show. This is an opportunity to showcase a body of work from your photographic portfolio. Any genre of photography can be submitted and all photographic mediums are eligible for submission.  All 5 artists accepted into the show will win cash prizes. The First Place Winner and People's Choice Award Winner will get additional prizes. The 7th Annual Juried Exhibition will benefit The Mount, Edith Wharton’s Home, and SculptureNow, both located in Lenox, MA. 20% of sales from the exhibition will be donated to these benefactors. The donation will be split between the two organizations. All submissions will be judged anonymously.

PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED AS FOLLOWS:

All cash prizes are awarded on behalf of the Alpern Foundation

1st PLACE WINNER
Will be awarded $500. The 1st Place Winner will also receive a private tour for two of The Mount and SculptureNow Exhibition with a Curator and lunch on the terrace, as well as a dual level membership to The Mount.

2nd PLACE WINNER
Will be awarded $300.

3rd PLACE WINNER
Will be awarded $200.

4th PLACE WINNER
Will be awarded $100.

5th PLACE WINNER
Will be awarded $50.

PEOPLES'S CHOICE AWARD
Will be awarded one archival pigment print of their own work, produced by Sohn Fine Art, on a stocked substrate of their choice at any size up to 40" x 60", a $450 value.

SUSAN WISSLER     I     Executive Director of The Mount, Edith Wharton’s Home

Susan Wissler joined The Mount in 2001 as Vice President and became Executive Director in 2008. In her role as Executive Director, she has ultimate responsibility for overall operations and facilities, and direct oversight of strategic planning and fundraising for the organization. She has managed restoration and renovation projects since 2002 in the Stable, Main House, and gardens. Ms. Wissler graduated magna cum laude from Brown University, received a J.D. from Columbia University, and has practiced law in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.

 ANN JON     I    Executive Director of SculptureNow

Ann Jon Is A Professional Sculptor Who Has Studied, Created, Exhibited And Taught Sculpture For More Than 40 Years, Locally, Regionally, Nationally And Internationally, In America And In Europe. She grew up in Denmark, and her work is inspired by that country’s medieval architecture, by ancient cultures worldwide, and more recently, by the topography and spirituality of mountains, canyons and deserts. Her sculptures are informed by studies and intuition. They range in scale from the intimate to the monumental, and use both traditional and experimental materials and techniques. Since 1998 she has been the Director of SculptureNow, a non-profit art and educational organization which presents an annual exhibition of large-scale, outdoor sculptures in the Berkshires, and offers sculpture programs for students in the public schools. She has curated and organized numerous public art exhibitions and is committed to promoting sculpture in the public arena and to giving young people the opportunity to create their own three-dimensional art. Her current studio and home is in one of the Berkshire Hilltowns. When she is not in her studio, office, or out teaching in a school, she cross-country skis, hikes, and kayaks.

WAYNE ALPERN   l    Trustee of the Alpern Foundation

Wayne Alpern is a contemporary composer, jazz arranger, music theorist, lawyer, art collector and amateur photographer living in Stockbridge and New York City. Alpern attended Oberlin College, University of Michigan, Yale Law School and City University of New York. He practiced law and taught at Mannes College of Music for many years. He is an honorary recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Music Theory and a member of the American Musicological Society. Alpern’s latest recording features ten Beatles arrangements and he is conducting a music program on Schenkerian Analysis with the world renowned pianist Murray Perahia at the Jerusalem Music Center in Israel later this season. He is an avid and eclectic collector of visual arts and design, and generously supports artists in all fields of endeavor through the Alpern Foundation.

JONAS DOVYDENAS   l   Photographer

Born in Kaunas, Lithuania in 1939, Dovydenas served in the USAF from 1958–61. He went on to earn a BA from Brown University, graduating in 1965. Dovydenas studied with Harry Callahan at RISD and Aaron Siskind at IIT Design Institute, and has been a freelance photographer since 1968. Dovydenas has been featured in numerous publications, such as Faces, a portfolio of 15 prints, issued by Douglas Kenyon Gallery in 1976, Chicago Houses, issued by St. Martin's Press in 1979, Nevada: A Journey, issued by Undermountain Press in 1987, and 63 Photographs for The Cruise of the Vanadis by Edith Wharton, issued by Rizzoli in 2004. His photographs have also appeared in American Photographer, Time, Playboy, Chicago Magazine, National Geographic Adventure, Smithsonian Air & Space and Aviation Week, among others. He has work in major public collections including The Art Institute of Chicago; The Museum of Contemporary Art/ Chicago; The Library of Congress; The Minneapolis Institute of Art; The Oak Brook Bank, Oak Brook, IL; The Exchange National Bank, Chicago; La Salle Bank (BOA) Photography Collection, Chicago; The National Gallery of Afghanistan, Kabul; Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago.

 SCULPTURE NOW

This year SculptureNow celebrates its 19th year as a non-profit arts and education organization. Our mission is to expand the experience and knowledge of art in general and sculpture in particular in the Berkshires, through exhibitions, presentations and free workshops in public schools. We offer free guided tours to the public, students, and vision-impaired visitors and our exhibitions provide opportunities for sculptors to develop their careers. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

ALL SUBMISSIONS ARE REVIEWED ANONYMOUSLY

All submissions must be made directly through CaFÉ (Call for Entry.org).  

  • Submit up to 12 images in digital format. Submissions must be in the photography genre. All photographic mediums are eligible for submission. Digital files must be uploaded through CaFÉ in jpeg format with a resolution of 72 ppi and a dimension of 1920 pixels on long side and not exceeding 5 MB. The filename must be labeled as such: first letter of your last name_title of the piece. Example: S_WavesandWater

  • There is a one time, $25 Submission fee, which helps to cover our CAFÉ fees and benefits the Master Artist Series Program.

     

    DEADLINE:  

  • All entries must be received by December 17, 2017. If any of your work is accepted, you will be notified by December 30.

  • If you are notified that you are accepted into the show, please confirm your acceptance by January 2nd. 

  • All work submitted must be limited editions or one-of-a-kinds. All artwork in the exhibition must be for sale. Accepted work must be of exhibition quality using only archival materials. Photographs must be framed (or equivalent if plexi-mounting or using an alternative process) and ready to hang. All artwork must be dropped off or delivered to the gallery by January 22. You are responsible for picking up or shipping any unsold work at the end of the exhibition. The Gallery is located at 69 Church Street, Lenox, MA. If you are shipping work you are responsible for all shipping and packing costs to and from the Gallery. Sohn Fine Art Gallery will donate 20% of the retail price of any sale to The Mount and SculptureNow and split the remaining 50/50 with the artist.
