PHOTOGRAPHY NOW is CPW’s annual juried survey exhibition of photography, with CPW Director’s Purchase Prize.

ELIGIBILITY
CPW’s annual Photography Now exhibition celebrates the plurality of photography. All photographic techniques and approaches are welcome, from analog to digital, fine art, directorial, narrative, documentary, political, social justice, identity, portrait, landscape, still life, mixed media incorporating photography, photographic installations, and digital imaging and collage!

JUROR

Elizabeth Ferrer is Vice President, Contemporary Art at BRIC, a major Brooklyn, New York cultural organization, where she curates solo and group exhibitions focusing on emerging and mid-career artists. Since she began at BRIC in 2007, Ferrer has instituted the publication of catalogues and brochures that act as critical platforms for critical writing on exhibitions artists, instituted the BRIC Biennial - a major exhibition held at BRIC House and other venues to highlight artists of exceptional promise in the borough, and expanded BRIC’s artist residency program. Among the exhibitions she has curated at BRIC are Brooklyn Photographs, a major survey of work by the Nuyorican artist Juan Sánchez, Whisper or Shout: Artists in the Social Sphere, and the photography exhibition, En Foco: New Works/Crossing Boundaries, in collaboration with En Foco.

 

Ferrer has also curated numerous exhibitions on Latino and Mexican modern and contemporary photography.  Her exhibitions have appeared at such venues as the Mexican Cultural Institute and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D. C., El Museo del Barrio, the Wallach Art Gallery at Columbia University, the Americas Society in New York,  the Austin Museum of Art, the University of Notre Dame, and MARCO in Monterrey Mexico. Ferrer is the author of Lola Alvarez Bravo (Aperture Foundation, NY), named as a New York Times notable book of the year, as well as of numerous exhibition catalogues and essays published nationally and internationally. She was co-editor of the catalogue of the Museum of Modern Art’s landmark exhibition, Latin American Artists of the 20th Century. Ferrer, who studied art history at Wellesley College and Columbia University, is currently writing a comprehensive history of Latino photography in the United States.

 

EXHIBITION
Selected works will be exhibited in CPW’s gallery in late fall of 2018.

PURCHASE PRIZE
One print by a photographer from the exhibition will be chosen and purchased for CPW’s Permanent Print Collection, held at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at SUNY New Paltz, and CPW. CPW’s Collection holds over 1,750 works of art by such program artists as Larry Fink, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Robert Heinecken, David Maisel, Mary Ellen Mark, Lilo Raymond, Steven Shore, Xaviera Simmons, and many more!

Past Purchase Prize recipients include Sarah Anthony, Carlos Saavedra, Morgan Ashcom, Lucas Foglia, Thomas Jackson, Ilona Szwarc, among others.

TIMELINE
Results will be announced in April. Selected participants will be given instructions on how, when, and what to send for the exhibition.

  • Artist Statement (up to 3,000 characters)

Image upload instructions are available on the Media Prep tab on callforentry.org, or simply click hereExhibition print sizes will not determine eligibility, however will be considered when selecting the number of framed pieces that will be included in the exhibition.

FULL-TIME STUDENTS and SENIORS: Upload of current and valid ID is required. There is an upload window for student and senior ID's within the application itself. If ID provided is not current, your entry will be disqualified and you will not be refunded.

For Students: Upload a clear, sharp scan or cell phone photo of the front and back of your current and validated student ID confirming full-time enrollment (dates must be visible). If student ID is not dated,  upload a copy of current unofficial transcripts along with the front and back of student ID.

For Seniors: (Individuals 65 years or older) Please upload a clear, sharp scan or cell phone photo of any government issued I.D. that shows your birth date.
