The Torpedo Factory Artists’ Association (TFAA) is a professional membership community of more than 275 professional artists from all over the world. The TFAA is dedicated to creating and exhibiting their fine arts and fine crafts in open studio settings and galleries where the visiting public and the cultural community can meet, learn, and interact in the promotion and appreciation of the visual arts. The TFAA is based at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, located in Alexandria, VA, just outside Washington DC. Successfully juried artists gain the opportunity to participate in exhibition and sales opportunities at all TFAA projects & sites and sublease/join Torpedo Factory Art Center studios. Candidates must go through the annual jury process and attend an orientation session to become a member of the Torpedo Factory Artists’ Association (TFAA). All artists working in fine arts and fine crafts are eligible. Fine arts and crafts include such work as paintings, photography, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, all kinds of sculpture, glass, film, video, and more. Please review the FAQ posted at torpedofactoryartists.com/jury for more detailed information about specific eligibility requirements in each category.  Upon selection, the candidate becomes a TFAA Associate Artist.

Application fee is $75 

Both phases of jurying are blind.  What this means is that the jurors will not see candidate names or any other identifying information.  Candidates will be judged by their work alone. Please do not include any information in your application about your educational experience, residencies, awards, professional qualifications or any personal information. Responses containing non-relevant information will be deleted from the information shown to jurors.

Phase I 
Submit 5 to 8 images of original finished 2D or 3D artwork created in the last two years. Film/video/animation artists must submit 5 to 8 clips. Artists must also complete the question section of this application.

Successful candidates will be notified and required to bring 5 original works of art or video (from the submitted 5-8 images or clips) to the Torpedo Factory Art Center on March 12, 2018 and pick up the work on March 15, 2018. The five works brought in for the second phase of jurying must have been reviewed in the first phase. 

Phase II
There are separate panels of jurors for the different types of work submitted (e.g. 2D, 3D, video, etc.). In addition to the 5-8 images submitted in the first phase, applicants will be asked to provide images or clips of at least 12 additional works on a USB drive. Two thirds of this work must have been completed in the last 2 years. Artist resumes and names are not given to the juror/s.
