JTHAR fosters creativity through opportunities for exploring, experimenting, quiet reflection, engagement and cross-cultural exchange with the vibrant local artist community. We establish spaces where inspiration happens on a daily basis, so artists can do the work of innovating, changing the cultural landscape and generating a fresh look at the way we connect to each other and to the world.

Scholarship Information:  All 2019 Spring Session chosen artsits will recieve a one thousand scholarship/stipend to be used to deter costs of participating in the program.   The six week solo artist extension program does not have scholarship awards.  Funds can be used towards art supplies, transportation, meals, etc. Studios and Accommodations: The residency provides studio space and living accommodations.  Each artist will be assigned their own house in which to live and work for the length of the residency.  Artists may choose to work in the JTHAR dedicated studio, a large shared studio space, divided by movable walls, depending on the artist's needs.  Some of the assigned houses are located near the West Entrance of the Joshua Tree National Park.  Others are in the areas of Pipes Canyon and Flamingo Heights.  Please refer to our website for examples of housing - JTHAR.COM * Please note that the summer months can be very hot in the high desert.  If you are adverse to the heat, this may not be the program for you.  All houses are equipped with AC or swamp coolers.  Residency Terms and Expectations:  Artists must provide transportation to and from the program.  A vehicle is needed during the residency stay as well.  Artists chosen for the Spring residency must be able to attend for the full seven week program - April 23 - June 11.  No exceptions.  Aritsts are welcome to have visitors during the residency.  Visitors are limited to a two night stay.  We cannot accommodate family members, partners or pets.  Artists must notify hosts of planned visitors.  Artists chosen for the residency will be required to donate one completed work to the JTHAR program.
