LA Artcore (LAAC) is pleased to announce our 4th Annual Juried Exhibition. The July 2018 exhibit will kick off the celebration of LA Artcore’s 39 years of supporting contemporary art and developing the careers of visual artists of diverse cultural backgrounds. This competition seeks outstanding all media except freestanding sculpture completed in the last two years that follow the guidelines listed below.

Exhibition:

Approximately 50 juror-selected images will be exhibited at LA Artcore's historic downtown gallery in the Los Angeles Brewery Arts Colony, one of the oldest and largest live-work spaces in the world. Covering 23 acres in 14 buildings, 500-700 artists and businesses call The Brewery Arts Colony their home.

Entry Fee: $35.00 for up to 3 entries, additional entry $10.00 ea. up to 10 entries.

Awards: As determined by our jury panel, cash awards will be given;
- 1st Place; $500 + Solo Exhibit at LA Artcore 
- 2nd Place; $250 
- 3rd Place $100 
- 2 Honorable Mentions
 

Eligibility:

The 2018 LA Artcore Juried Exhibition is open to all emerging and professional artists over the age of 18, residing in North America, working in all media except freestanding sculpture. There is no theme: any subject matter is eligible. All work must have been completed on or after April 1, 2016, and not previously entered in this competition. LA Artcore staff and Board Members are not eligible.

Up to ten wall-mounted works not exceeding 50" in width, 72" in height, 24" in depth and 30 lbs. in weight may be entered. Works that are sent without hanging fixtures will not be accepted. Works must be ready to hang.


*No free-standing sculpture will be accepted at this time.

Jurors:

 

Tulsa Kinney - is the editor and co-founder of Artillery, a contemporary art magazine based in Los Angeles established in 2006. She received her MFA at USC in 1988 and has been in numerous solo and group art exhibitions for over two decades. At that time she was teaching digital imaging at various Southern California colleges along with her graphic design career at the LA Weekly. Tulsa started writing about 15 years ago and her articles have been published in the Los Angeles Times and LA Weekly. She continues to write about art and stay deeply immersed in the contemporary art world.

Jim Morphesis – Jim Morphesis lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1948, Morphesis received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Tyler School of Art of Temple University in 1970 and earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from the California Institute of the Arts in 1972. Morphesis’ paintings have been shown in thirty-eight solo exhibitions and in more than one hundred invitational group exhibitions at museums and galleries including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Religious Art in St. Louis, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the State Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessalonika, Greece, the Queens Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Morphesis’ paintings can be seen in the permanent collections of more than twenty-five museums including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, the Oakland Museum of California Art, the Phoenix Museum of Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Michael Arata - Los Angeles-based artist has exhibited nationally and internationally including exhibits in Yokohama, Tokyo, and Rio De Janeiro. Recent exhibits include group and solo exhibits at. Arata was the subject of a solo exhibit at Garboushian Gallery in 2013, Kristi Engle Gallery in 2009 and has been included in group exhibits at Charlie James gallery (2016) and Titanik Gallery in Turku, Finland. His work has been covered in the Huffington Post and Whitehot Magazine.

Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping and insurance (during shipping) of artworks. All shipments must include a prepaid UPS/FedEx return label and be shipped in a container appropriate for re-use in return shipping. For hand carried deliveries and pickups, the LA Artcore Brewery Annex is open Thursday - Sunday, 12-5 p.m. Along with your shipping label, please include an envelope containing a print-out and full description of the corresponding artwork. 

Any work left at the Brewery gallery 5 days after the close of the exhibition will be subject to a $10 per day storage fee. Any work left at the Brewery Gallery for more than two weeks is subject to sale or disposal without notification. Artworks will be handled carefully and displayed in a secure gallery. While best handling practices of art are observed please note that LA Artcore is not responsible for damage during transit or during the exhibition, or during de-installation. Artist is responsible for insuring their work. The gallery does not discriminate with regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, or veteran status. 

LA Artcore reserves the right to photograph artworks in the exhibition for publicity and educational purposes.
