Juror

The distinguished juror for the 2018 Southern Printmaking Biennale VIII International is Aaron Coleman. Aaron is an Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Arizona. He received his MFA from Northern Illinois University in 2013 and has taught all levels and media in printmaking at California State University Fresno and Northern Illinois University. Aaron also taught traditional stone lithography at the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative. 

 

Aaron has exhibited internationally and received numerous awards, scholarships and fellowships for his work in lithography and mezzotint. Aaron’s work can be found in the collections of The University of Colorado, Wichita State University, the Ino-cho Paper Museum in Kochi, Japan, The Yekaterinburg Museum of Art in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and the University of Tennessee Knoxville’s Ewing Gallery Collection and among many other public and private collections.

Bob Owens Art Gallery
The Bob Owens Art Gallery serves as the cultural anchor for the University of North Georgia and surrounding community. The gallery holds exhibitions of art by promising students, regional, national, and international professional artists. 

Eligibility

The exhibition is open to all artists 18 years and older residing anywhere globally. Entry is open to all artists globally working in any hand pulled printmaking medium. Submissions must be original, innovative works in all printmaking media including mono-prints, monotypes, large-scale prints, three- dimensional prints, created at any point in your career. Pull something out of your drawer that’s never been exhibited before. The Exhibition Curator and the Juror may reject any piece that differs significantly from the accepted digital image, does not fit the criteria or is not framed in a suitable manner for gallery presentation. 

Entry Fee
Each artist may submit $35.00 USD for three prints to five prints by credit card through the CaFE web site.

Catalog and Publicity
A catalogue will be sent to all participating artists. The University of North Georgia reserves the right to photograph the work submitted for the catalogue or for publicity purposes.  A catalog will be sent to all accepted artist. The catalog will illustrate the entire exhibition and includes a statement by the juror. Digital files must be print quality since all accepted work will be reproduced in a full color catalog. By entering this exhibition, each artist grants consent for the use of submitted images for reproduction in the catalog for publicity and for educational purposes by the University of North Georgia and the Bob Owens Art Gallery. All accepted artist will receive a copy of the catalog. The catalog will illustrate the entire exhibition and include statements by the Juror and Curator.  

Only JPEG files will be accepted. JPEGs must be 1800 pixels on the longest side and have a resolution of 300 dpi. JPEGs must be named in this manner: lastname_firstname_entry#.jpg (example: doe_john_05.jpg)

Framing Requirements
The work must be suitable for gallery presentation, securely framed, wired and ready to hang. Unstable or improperly framed work will not be accepted. No clips or saw tooth edges. Mats should be white or off white and frames should be neutral. No glass, only Plexiglas glazing. Hanging devices for installation artwork, three dimensional or alternative works are the responsibility of the artist. Consult with the curator. 

Awards
The award is a one-person exhibition in the Fall of 2019, in addition the winner will be the Juror for the Southern Printmaking Biennale IX International 2020. In 2024 a retrospective exhibition of all one-person exhibition winners will be held. 

Delivery / Shipping
Accepted work may be hand delivered to the Bob Owens Art Gallery. All shipped work must be sent to the Gallery in a reusable carton and with prepaid return shipping documents and custom documents enclosed. We are under no obligation to return work that does not arrive with return prepaid shipping documentation. It will become the property of UNG as will unclaimed hand-delivered work. We will send detailed shipping instructions to accepted artists. Any and all international customs paperwork is the responsibility of the artist. No artwork shipped with packing peanuts will be accepted. Insurance and round-trip shipping is the responsibility of the artist.
